My flights now showing as cancelled XXX-HKG-YYY for 22 Sept-24 Sept. Have CX Agent on the phone, I'm booked in full J as a OWE, and they're refusing to do a reacom on QF via SYD (still showing J2), or anyone else outside of CX. He says flight segs still showing as HK (shouldn't they be UN by now?). They are saying it doesn't meet guidelines (departing from Canada, Israel, or Australia??) for partner flight protections. That's not what I know, and maybe this is a classic case of HUACA but I've waited hours to get on the phone with an agent...

Can you share your original routing?

Sorry, I'm just used to writing that as a former agent. LAX-HKG-DPS on CX883J 22SEP to CX785J 24SEP .... I found QF12J 22SEP to QF43J 24SEP (that's via SYD), why can't they protect me on that as a full J pax? I don't get it, this is a full irop with a reacom waiver, no?

Now the CX HKG Call Center is so busy that they are not receiving any calls..... just tell you to go to their website and hangup. Even DMs have no way of contacting any agent.

Other fellow DMs, are you able to contact any human agents?

[Update} Finally got through, now waiting in queue.

On Saturday afternoon HK time it did take 90 mins, but when I tried this morning, nothing doing and I gave up.

Definitely developed a loathing for the CX hold music and never want to hear it again.

Update- I called the CX call centre first thing this morning and after 2 hours was surprised by someone answering. Twenty minutes later the charming and very efficient CX lady (I think Japanese) had sorted me a ticket to my destination leaving tomorrow morning in advance of the typhoon.

I went into the Ragasa rebooking window holding (all separate bookings):

1. QF124 Y redemption 23/9 ZQN 07:05 SYD 08:30
2. CX138 J redemption 23/9 SYD 21:50 HKG 05:10
3. (When Ragasa track started to become known) CX100 Y redemption 23/9 SYD 14:05 HKG 21:30

(2) and (3) were both cancelled at 15:30 HKT. My preference was to rebook (2) into 24/9 CX138, but had no luck calling in from 15:30-01:30 even with one Kingking, two Google Voice call out devices and doing a bunch of hacks to try to get through. One Kingking call was 6 hours long before it dropped.

I was automatically rebooked while I was calling:
(3) Got rebooked into 23/9 SYD 10:10 HKG 17:50 (last CX flight before shutdown?)
(2) Got rebooked into 27/9 QF405 SYD 06:25 MEL 08:00 27/9 QF29 MEL 10:20 HKG 17:55

Rebooked (2) was a non-starter, I’m simply going to refund that segment. Rebooked (3) is a good arrival time but reduces my connection in SYD from 6 hours to 100 minutes. While possibly doable, there’s no buffer for anything going wrong before getting to CX departure desk at T-60 eg not even an extended Customs inspection.

When I explained my circumstances to the J check in in QF ZQN, she kindly checked my luggage through, despite two separate tickets.

Currently at Phnom Penh airport and it seems Cathay are moving some of the fleet empty down here. Is this due to space constraints at HKG? Or damage worries?

Cathay is already in the process of repositioning some airframes and crews, in anticipation of getting operations back online as fast as possible on Thursday once the typhoon passes.

I can't speak to PNH, but I know that CX has already begun the process of repositioning to other cities, so that Thursday morning flights ex-outports (at least, in Asia) can operate normally.

Seems Phnom Penh is the storage airport of choice, although its now KTI airport as of a few weeks. Been sat here enjoying watching the A330s and B777s arrive. Including possibly the one and only time a non ER 300 will visit KTI.

Look up on Flightradar24 any flight number in the CX38xx and CX39xx series and there’s currently 16 aircraft being repositioned to various ports around Asia.

Flew DFW-HND/NRT-HKG yesterday. Got the CX message for the NRT-HKG leg waiving fees and allowing changes. In DFW I tried to switch to DFW-NRT-HKG which would allow me to catch an earlier flight to HKG and possibly outrun the typhoon. No can do, said the ever-helpful AA people, it would correspond to a voluntary change, and thus a reprice of the ticket (doubling the price, which I passed on).

In the end, it was all OK, as DFW-HND was on time and the NRT-HKG flight went off without a hitch, arriving HKG at 1:30 AM on schedule, during a T3. Overall a smooth flight. There was one more CX flight coming in from Japan today September 23, and everything else cancelled until Thursday morning. HKG last night was pretty busy with people who obviously weren't planning on spending the next couple of nights at the airport, but that's the roll of the dice.

CX is clearly re-arranging all their plane positions at the outports so that they can start from scratch on Thursday. This means, on the downside, a pretty long window of cancellations, stranding many, many people both in and outside of Hong Kong.

Just landed 18:08. Landing was a nothingburger, but captain said it’ll get worse later.

Been in queue for 2.5 hrs so far, does anyone have any bright ideas for what to do as a business class passenger who is not a Cathay member but BA GGL (and before anyone flames me, yes I understand that I am ‘just’ OWE)? - rather infuriating that no status, no class of travel priority is taken into consideration

I was almost in the same boat (BA GGL but travelling in economy): I waited 2.5 hours and they weren't able to resolve my issue! Eventually I just resolved it myself by making another booking with MH - a good decision as it enabled me to get back to HK before the typhoon.
