JAL redemption - High taxes/fees vs booking via QF

Hi all,

I'm looking at booking a SYD-HND business redemption on JAL using my CX miles. CX shows 63k miles plus HKD2606. I checked QF and the exact same flight is shows 90k points plus AUD103 (approx HKD524).

Does anyone know why the huge difference in taxes/fees?

Here's what AA charges for the same redemption, including the breakdown of the cash component (in USD). You should be able to find a similar breakdown with CX and QF. (I suspect the CX is collecting a "carrier surcharge.")

Yes, you are right.
HKD2074 + HKD29 out of HKD2606 total is made up of carrier surcharges.
