I can’t afford business, but I think splurging the extra little bit is worth it, especially if it’s 10 hours plus
Can't help but say that, almost every single 777 in the skies are 3-4-3 in Y. It isn't a CX thing, but a design thing. 777s are simply built for 3-4-3, except those dating back to the early 2000s.

This is bollocks. They were designed for, and for many years were, 3-3-3 and then the airlines got greedy.

I wouldn't phrase it quite that way.

The 777 was designed at a time when economy was 3-3-3. But some airlines, and then some more, began to push 3-4-3.

The 777 is 'built' for 3-4-3 only in the sense that it has a wide fuselage which permits and supports that config, but 3-4-3 was not on the cards when the 777 was developed.

Ain't it though that almost every operator has 3-4-3? I've only been on AirChina 777s that have 3-3-3, and I feel it isn't significant wider any so.

JAL yes. ANA no. ANA is in the process of retrofitting their 777s to 3-4-3. I believe most of their 777s are now 3-4-3.

Color looks very nice but I cant help but notice - they choose to retain the footrests like those on the 77W? Why not like the ones on the a350? It makes a pretty big difference for me as I have 43 sized feet.

I’m thinking the seat padding looks noticeably thinner than both 777 and a350 current seats. Hope this is just the photos and they aren’t too hard…

Definitely thinner than first-gen premium economy which was super-padded, but still quite comfy when I tried the seat today.

I’m not particular excited about the PEY seat, because Finnair, who used the same seat, got some pretty average reviews from the poor padding and wear of the seat.

Maybe it's just me but the seat looks like a downgrade when compared to previous generations:
1. The Y-shaped back looks like they wanted to use as little material as possible.
2. The padding seems to be way thinner than before.
3. The headrest looks thinner and plastic.
4. It is puzzling that the "privacy divider" is only on one side. Is CX too cheap to install them on both sides?

Overall, apart from the IFE screen and seat pocket, it looks worse off than before. I'd be annoyed if I paid 2-2.5x the cost of Y for this.
