I used the in-town check-in couple of days ago. When I entered the gate, the gate attendant asked my destination. Since I was flying to the US, I was directed to the desk immediately, and bypassed the self-check-in kiosks. Attendant checked my passport, asked the necessary questions, and checked my bags like normal.

Is Intown Check in available for connecting flights?

I understand HK station does not provide full check in service anymore except for F or Diamond.
Planning to take CX 257 at 08.25 to connect onto BA to Dublin. If I can get boarding pass through OLCI, can I drop bags at HK station the day before? It would really help as I would otherwise have to bring 2 cases on the first train at 6am.
CX CS has given mixed responses. Has anyone used intown check for connecting flights in the last week?

I can think of one problem is if you use your AEL ticket the day before to access ITCI, it won’t be valid for actual travel on the AEL on next day.

It works just fine if you do this. The one thing you can't do however is enter the ITCI area twice. Turned up a bit over 24 hours before my flight, couldn't check-in yet, so went back later and they had to manually let me in.
This was using a ticket purchased in the MTR Mobile app, but it probably works the same for Octopus tickets? It used to be common to check-in the day before, pre-covid.

Why would you need to be on the first train at 6am for an 8:25 departure? You can drop your bags at the ITCI up to 90 minutes before departure, so 06:55 in your case. Just drop your bags off at the ITCI after 6am and get a slightly later train.

I have done this multiple times pre-pandemic and never had any issues using the same ticket or octopus card (charged when checking in, nothing deducted the next day when taking the train).

The system has changed to self service check in and print your own tag for bag drop at HK station since 1 February. I was told the automated machine may not process check through tags as BA connection may need to be processed manually. Hence I may have to bring luggage to airport and join the check in queue there.

You were told by who?

If you are on a single ticket, the tags should directly include your BA flight. There should not need any manual intervention. Even at the airport, you and your bags are checked through automatically on interline partners. It is short checking that is difficult.
Manual intervention is only needed if you fly on 2 separate tickets as CX provides that courtesy.

In the very-unlikely case where the tag does not show your final destination (if on a single ticket), then go to the manned desk.

You can check in at the airport station the day before and take the train the day of your flight, as patrickw mentioned.

Adding on that, may I ask if it’s possible to enter AEL at another station on the next day? I am considering heading to HK station to check in a day before, but to board the train somewhere else on the next day.

Yes, but the ticket must be for Hong Kong Station in order to use the ITCI there. There's no problem subsequently using the same ticket to depart from Kowloon station.

Popular Kowloon in-town check-in service resuming in phases

MTR Corporation announced yesterday that the full In-town Check-in Service at Kowloon Station will resume in phases. The first phase starting from today 6th June with the initial phase available only for Cathay Pacific passengers.

In addition, starting from this Friday (7 June), the In-town Check-in Service at Hong Kong Station will be expanded to include also Hong Kong Airlines.

Seemingly the operator, MTR intends to resume a full pre pandemic service in phases at both stations

“Since the resumption of services at Hong Kong Station on 5 July last year, the Corporation has actively coordinated with airlines to provide faster, more convenient, and comfortable train services for passengers traveling between the airport and the city. The In-town Check-in Service at Kowloon Station, in its initial phase, will be available only for Cathay Pacific passengers and will operate from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm daily. The station has installed six smart check-in kiosks and two self-service bag drop counters.”

Can any kind soul confirm whether frequent flyer benefits (most importantly priority baggage) apply at HKG ITCI?

Last time I checked in at TPE ITCI they explicitly stated no frequent flyer benefits are available, to which pax have to check in at the airport itself to avail

Just this printed tag. Still current as of end March:

I’ve just been passed a new bag tag - instead of having a very small “Class: J” or “Class: F”, the priority is indeed directly printed on the tag

However I am still skeptical these will work on their own, especially since some bags are still receiving priority tags like Rain187 . Will still be using desks until priority tags fully phased out.
