Everyone must be flocking to CX today to get into the ticket lottery... just tried to book ticks for a separate non-lottery trip and was greeted by this:

Update: after my 10 mins was up, the page attempted to auto reload.... very... slowly.... then timed out.
Hitting refresh put me back of the line in the queue, with the timer now starting at 15 minutes.
What a joke.

I'm afraid Cathay is becoming a bit of a joke when it comes to contacting them. Good in the air but you have to jump through hoops to get there. Queueing for the website, very long time to answer - if they answer - when you call them, don't reply to emails at all from what I can see, trying to charge me for correcting errors on a redemption group, reducing tier points on most flights but leaving the headline 1,200 and 1,600 thresholds unchanged. Definitely a deterioration in their service which used to be very good.

I gave up on my 3rd attempt to get into the site. Will give it another shot later this week when the freebie-seeking circus crowd has died down.

The reason is a free ticket giveaway from HK Gov. Today is the day to get a free ticket from BKK to HKG. (Starting from 1PM HK Time)
All HKG airlines (CX,HX,UO) had this issue.

Was just checking in online this afternoon, and got to the queuing system around 12:30pm... Decided to try later, and there was no queue anymore at around 4pm.

I was on the page before 12PM and then got kicked out as I refreshed it.

Your queue number: 63034
Number of users in queue ahead of you:58803
Expected arrival time on the website:more than an hour
Your estimated wait time is:more than an hour
Now the waiting time is more than one hour and a message has just popped up saying:

Message last updated: 12:17

There are currently a lot of people in line for registration. The number of people in queue is already over the 12,500 registration quota in Singapore and it’s very likely that the quota will be full soon.

I was thinking of going for the Philippine one tomorrow. Won't bother - thanks for the insight and prevention of wasting my time!

I can't even sign in into my account. It says "error loading chunks!" I don't think it's loading the chunks, seems to be more blowing them.
