Otherwise, maybe the agent granted access as an exception because AS was also using CX lounge for some time before COVID-19 for its own lounge members.

Just a data point. It was a separate one way AS ticket, sold by AS and operated by AS.

Arrived at lunchtime ahead of the afternoon departure to Hong Kong and wow. The J lounge is absolutely terrible. The Eames style chairs are nice, the apron view is ok and there are only five people in here, that’s all the good things I have to say for it. Poor drinks and really bad food selection. I’m off to the Sakura… it has its critics but it’s way better than this!

This is a little unexpected as many others have highly praised the lounge, its outlook, style and F&B. There are some images of the food offerings and recent Youtube posts where the food looks rather enticing. I couldn't find online anything that was critical of the lounge or its food offerings. My wife and her 'girlfriends' were in the lounge on they back to HK a few days back at about the same time and liked both the food and the lounge (and the champagne. I suspect)
Just a bad day for both yourself and the lounge perhaps.

We had a rather good experience on Sept 28 afternoon. The F&B offerings were quite acceptable - better than the JL J lounge we had experienced in the past. (no idea after Pandemic).

Generally the lounges there are poor standard and always have been compared to other airports.

The lounge is quite spacious but not many people on a weekday afternoon. Food is okay and pretty standard.

I don't believe I ever went into the CX lounge at NRT, but I use the one at HND a lot and personally like it better than the JL F lounge (with the exception of the JALs Salon whiskey). It's been a little while since I've done a OW departure from NRT so am not up on post-pandemic standards there. Last time I didn't have a ton of time so just went to JL F, but I don't think CX and QF were reopened yet then and the AA lounge has never been anything special (is it even still there?)

CX HND's problem is that it closes relatively early at 17:00.

This was the AA lounge, according to info up-thread.

Are you confusing it for the HND lounge? That lounge is great. NRT is an AAdmirals Club with catering to match

Ah that makes sense then. I've been to several CX lounges in other cities and thought they were all perfectly fine, even if they only have a business lounge. (like BKK and MNL for example). I'll have a NRT departure in December, so will have to make an effort to go check it out and see how bad it is first hand.

the new lounge needs a noodle bar.
