By March the airline is expected to be operating at close to 48% of 2019 levels with more destinations coming back on line every month as more aircraft are returned from storage and become available.
In December it is reported that they flew 34% of there 2019 schedule and this week Anand Yedery, Regional Head of Marketing and Sales, South Asia and Middle East, announced a doubling of flights to China to 100 per week by March. Several of the upcoming China destinations will not have been flown by Cathay for many many years or never as almost all of the secondary China routes were previously flown by Cathays Dragon Air subsidiary. |

Long haul route resumptions for 2023
Given all that CX has been through over the last few years, it is such welcome news seeing the airline beginning to ramp up schedules again, and I truly hope that this will mark the beginning of a strong come back for Cathay, as I have very fond memories flying with the airline :)
On the topic of recovery, what are people's thoughts of long haul routes that CX is likely to re-open this year? Are any of the 'newer' ones introduced during 2016-19 likely to come back? |

How are these questions materially different from your previous questions in this thread? Or, are you trying to see if any of us have changed our minds (e.g. "on second thought, screw SIN")?
Apologies, I hadn't meant for my post to give the impression of changing minds at all - rather, I am just keen to get any insights into what CX's future may look like, given that the situation in HKG RE. Covid-19 entry restrictions has begun to change pretty drastically :) |

Wondering if JNB will come back this year. Think I saw someone mentioned end of Jan. I looked at timetable / schedules but couldn't see anything pop up.

Strange that I cannot book MNL-HKG-MAD. Flight choices will always be at least 2 stops.

As China is reopening its border, CX aggressively restores its flights to Mainland China. Now it schedules 5 daily flights to Shanghai Pudong(PVG) starting from February...Back to December 2022, it is only one weekly service.

I have previously booked HGH- HKG- YYZ in J for June 2023 (via BA Avios). All confirmed and seat selected.
I just realized that CX is now only flying HGH - HKG once or twice a week, but NOT on the date (Friday) I’m scheduled to fly. The flight is CX 959, 11:25 AM departure from HGH, on the same day I need to connect to CX 826 at 5:20 PM. They do have one on the day before, the Thursday, which would require me to overnight in HK, bah. Or I could change to the PVG-HKG 11:25 AM leg on Friday, which would require me to get up at an ungodly hour to catch the flight from Hangzhou (3-4 hours train or bus to PVG), neither of which is ideal. I’m wondering when I would know for sure CX flies this route or not on the day I’m currently booked. The flight is June 9, should I start planning for alternatives in March? April? |

I would say hold a little bit to see what will be the schedule in March, as they promise to operate more than 100 flights from mainland to hongkong by March 2023.
This should include the increase of direct flight from HGH to Hongkong. |
