Membership and Rewards program

Wondering if anyone else got this email, and if so, what does it mean exactly?Important information about your Registered account
"Dear Mr. XXX

We’re elevating our membership and rewards programme, and as part of this transition we’ll soon be retiring your Registered account with us. You’ll still be hearing from us; however from noon (Hong Kong time) on 27 April you will no longer be able to sign in to your account on any platform.

If you have any questions about your Registered account, please get in touch.

If you are currently an Asia Miles or Marco Polo Club member, your membership will not be impacted."

What will be the options left to access the accounts?

AFAIU there are changes coming up to Marco Polo/AsiaMiles, and one of them is that registered accounts – which are neither Marco Polo nor AsiaMiles accounts – will be dropped. I had no idea you could get an account and NOT be a Marco Polo ir AsiaMiles member but there you go. That's why they push holders of such accounts to register with AsiaMiles, giving them 300 miles and MP Green status, for free (I remember paying 50 bucks in 2007...)

I didn't know that either. You learn something new every day...

OP, they are gearing up for a relaunch in July 2022. This was announced a year ago in July 2021, so they have been preparing for a while. There will no longer be a separation between Asia Miles and Marco Polo, instead it will be one combined Cathay program.

Received this email today:
"Dear member,
You may have received an email from us recently in relation to your Registered account and the changes that we’re making.
We apologise if this caused you any concern or confusion and would like to take this opportunity to clarify the upcoming changes in more detail.
What we realised was that offering three alternative relationship programmes (Registered account, Marco Polo Club and Asia Miles) was quite confusing and inconvenient. The changes we’re making are about simplification. Soon, there will only be one account for everything you need at Cathay Pacific. We’re aware the communication of this change was probably overly complex, and we’re sorry for causing any confusion during this transition. Rest assured, it will get simpler soon!
The Registered account that you joined through our website is essentially our basic account option – offering faster bookings, easier booking management, and personalised communications. We’ll be phasing out Registered accounts in due course as we unveil our refreshed, simpler membership and rewards programme. This means that from noon on 27 April, your Registered account will no longer be operational.
If you are currently a Marco Polo Club or Asia Miles member, your membership is unaffected, and you can continue to sign in with your membership number or username as usual. We are writing to inform you about the change to your Registered account sign-in only, and there is no further action from you required, but if you are not yet a Marco Polo Club or Asia Miles member and you wish to continue hearing from us, please feel free to click here to find out more about how you can do so.
Over the coming months, we’ll be bringing together Marco Polo Club and Asia Miles under one Cathay membership programme, simplifying the way you interact with us.
Once again, we’re very sorry for any concern or confusion."

Guess that makes sense now.

Elevating their programme sounds just like the words Putain would use. One knows what comes next, negative elevation.

Typical corporate speak, unfortunately. There's still hope they throw us something good in the mix there, like lifetime status.

At this point, this is all deck-chair rearranging. I've logged 0 Club Points for the last 3 years, and don't see that changing with CX flying from the UK twice a month (not twice a day, or even twice a week).

I got this today as well and it actually affects me since I have a registered account but no Asia Miles or Marco Polo accounts.
I used to fly CX quite a lot, but credited everything to AA, so I used the registered account option to access the flights from the app, without re-entering the PNR every time, but from what I understand this will no longer be available...

There is a workaround for cases like this. You can register for an Asia Miles and collect the 300 miles (why not? They’re free). Once signed up, you can “add booking” to your account, which doesn’t change the associated FFP.

In the Cathay Pacific app, the steps are: login —> menu —> My Bookings —> Add booking.
