I had no idea you could get an account and NOT be a Marco Polo ir AsiaMiles member but there you go. That's why they push holder of such accounts to register with AsiaMiles, giving them 300 miles and MP Green status, for free (I remember paying 50 bucks in 2007...)

OP, they are gearing up for a relaunch in July 2022. This was announced a year ago in July 2021, so they have been preparing for a while. There will no longer be a separation between Asia Miles and Marco Polo, instead it will be one combined Cathay program.
