CX to relaunch Moscow?

The "Explore Destinations" section doesn't show all destinations served by CX/KA. But before launching the short-lived CPH service, Cathay used to dedicate a sub-page there. Just came across Moscow on the list, a hint for resumption soon?

Not surprise base on the number of SU cabin crew seen at HKIA and the amount of Russian I hear spoken around Wan Chai and Yau Tsim Mong

Interesting. It looks like the Moscow page was (re-)added around March 2018, which was when HX was talking about Moscow.

No Moscow link in December 2017 - https://web.archive.org/web/20171107...tinations.html

Re-added by September 2018 - https://web.archive.org/web/20180907...tinations.html

The page itself has versions in April 2016 and March 2018 - https://web.archive.org/web/20180313...in-moscow.html

Should they use A350-900 (35G) or A330-300 (33K) to fly DME?

They deployed 343 to Moscow back then. So probably 333 cant do the job for CX. Likely to be 359 then, which is heavily used to explore new opportunities such as new destinations and adding frequencies.

Not sure how to define this route. For the ordinary Moskovites, HK is an expensive city to visit. Nice beach and club, yes. But it'd be much more fun to get smashed in Nha Trang, Phuket, etc (Plenty of nonstop flights too) The ultra-rich prefers Spain, southern France, London and Dubai.

Cathay would need much more comprehensive codeshare with S7 to make this work. Remember when AB was still around, it was convenient to fly HKG-DUS-VCE/VIE/TXL? If CX & S7 could replicate that and give some coverage to central and southern Europe, that'd be great.

IIRC, the problem with S7 is that a lot of their flights run only once or twice a week, making code-share arrangements like what mentioned above difficult. S7 has a lot of destinations, but poor frequency in general.

If CX could turn a profit by flying to every city served by mainland carriers, everyone would be buying CX shares.

The real nasty thing with S7 is, the stop-over at Novosibirsk, which adds another 6-20 hours to your journey.
And the second nasty thing is, that S7 flies these distances with an A320Neo.
nancypants likes this.

Im pretty sure if CX codeshares on all of s7 domestic routes within Russia then Im this route would be probably quite profitable.

on the if you look at the map on CX routes to Europe, Moscow is the biggest hole
