So we're now in 2019, Citi has increased the annual fee of the Prestige card by over 50% without adding any benefits whatsoever to the card. Will existing card holders pay 3,800 from next year onwards, or do we pay 2,500 'until further notice'?

According to what they've said, the $2500 is grandfathered until further notice....but who knows when that notice will come??

It actually devalued its benefits. You don't have unlimited PP lounge access anymore. It's still advertised as such, but T&C added "one visit per departure or arrival", which makes impossible not only to visit several lounges a time, but also stay in a single lounge on a transit of more that 3 hrs.

If the fee goes up to 3800 for existing cardholders, I am definitely out.

You're right. Benefits have been devalued as is - but also further devalued on the back of the fee increase.

It will be very difficult to convince myself to keep this card if they increase the fee, even though I do find the 4th Night Free benefit extremely useful.

Just a quick one: In wiki Citi PM has > HK$20K for HKD 3 to 1 Miles, but I fail to see it anywhere on PM site. Can anyone validate if it is an old deal that is gone?

It's in the standard T&Cs here: https://www.citibank.com.hk/english/...miles-card.htm (scroll down to Clause 1 of " Terms & Conditions of Points Accumulations and Redemption "

It's not a time-limited promotion.

Citi Prestige also has an extra bonus, but it depends on years you hold the card plus your status with the bank (i.e. Gold & above vs Priority & below).

It's possible further devaluation is ahead as well - for the US version of the card, the 4th Night Free benefit will be restricted to twice per year from September 2019 onwards.

If this happens to the HK version of the card I'll be cutting it immediately, no doubt.

The US version at the same time improved points earning, however.

Thats pretty scary.. will be cutting the card as well if this happens!
Are there any HK cards out there with amazing hotel benefits like this? AMEX Platinum?

sxc Jan 8, 2019 8:05 pm

Also the US Citi card has a spending credit which essentially rebates you back half the card fee. If the HK card matches all the US benefits, even with a higher fee, I would tend to stick with the card. But who knows what is coming down the line...

Amex Plat comes with mid level status at some hotel chains (SL Golden Circle Jade possibly being the most valuable as it can status match to KrisFlyer Gold) and the ability to book hotels through the Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts programme, which is quite useful for the benefits it provides. That being said, those benefits are certainly not worth the HKD 7,800 annual fee. If you hold residency status elsewhere it may be worth applying for the Amex Plat Charge there.

The only country where I know it's perfectly affordable is Russia LOL. In Taiwan it's 35000 TWD per year, which is completely insane. Can't imagine how people justify that (for miles earning there are better cards).

Hi All,

the Wiki suggests that HSBC has the best UnionPay CC for RMB spending in China when selecting the China spending category only.
I am using the Visa Signature for local Dining and have everything selected for Dining accordingly. - I don't believe I can select different categories for different cards, is that right?

Thanks in advance!
