For those interested, there is an article in the November inflight magazine explaining how Cathay handled the typhoon.

i got this reply for my travel insurance...

Dear XXXXXXXXXXX,

We are sorry to hear about your travel delay.

We regret to inform you that we will not be able to meet your request for compensation.

In accordance with the policy wording, Section 17.3, the insurance cannot be held liable for any unused accommodation expenses or no-show fees in connection with travel delay.

For that reason we will not be able to reimburse you for the claimed expenses.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Kind regards

Yes, for some comically small amount of assurance-type compensation cos HKers accumulate these more than colds - e.g. my recent FWD plan B only promises 300hkd for 6 hours, or $2,500 rerouting reimbursement (either or).

Still long for the days when I paid SGD$300+ for ACE (Annual Multi-trip) and got a compensation of SGD$800+ for a one day delay. Fuel leak on a A380 in Paris, a 24-hours delay. I wasn't expecting anything but that's was nice, nevertheless.
