I was sitting in PEY on CX 829 YYZ - HKG on May 21, and thought it was strange that my IFE interface was the same I had experienced on A350's. Then when going to the restroom I noticed the Economy seats were redesigned as well, looks like I was on a refitted plane.

A few comments (again this is from a PEY perspective):
- Bathroom wait was horrible, worse than before. Almost at all times there was a line up or short wait.
- Service was noticeably slower and Flight Crew were less present throughout the flight.
- Whilst boarding did seem to take longer, we still departed on time. This could have been attributed to a few reasons however, such as the ontime boarding start due to the late night flight 0150.

To be fair, the seats did look more comfy and the bigger IFE screen seems to be a plus. On my ususal HKG-YYZ-HKG flights I've been flying J for the past 2 years, so PEY this time was occasionally a challenge. But overall it was sufficient enough to get at least 5-7 hours sleep total. Given the new 10 abreast howver, there is no way that I could ever go back to sitting in Y for 15+ hours considering how cramped it is right now.

Actually I flew EK once, not knowing they did 10 abreast and swore never again. Then I discovered Cathay and fell in love with it's Y product and made it my preferred carrier UK to Australia. Now I'll be able to do 3 out of 4 sectors on the A350 unless they bring that to the LHR routes as well.

I can confirm that NO sale of 10-abreast starts officially until June and that month is only regionally-configured 10-abreast. Long-haul starts in July, as per internal document.

Just spotted my SYD-HKG flight next week got swapped to a 77K.

TBH this is only short term
and had HX not entered the market CX would not have bothered
once the 777-9 start rolling in the 777-300er will be shifted to midhaul shorthaul and restired
and 10 abreast on 777-9 is going to be wider...

777X is not going to reinstate 18.5" seating/2" armrests (hence, not short term)

(777X/777-9 = 77W cabin width + 4 inches (or 0.4 inch per pax if all space given to pax)
(below calculations assume same armrest width and aisle width as CX 777 10-abreast (77K))

Also some updates:
Regional B773s will not get the 12" TV. They will have the previous 9" HD TV from 77G/77H instead - something that was not officially announced.

CX doesn’t even give one of these “enhancement” to the 10-abreast 773... very disappointing.

Yes. Had a look at B-KPY's flight log it's been rostered on everything from LHR/YYZ/BKK/SYD so it's different from the previous short haul only/ LHR specific ops

as a usualdefender of CX
I have to say
this is just stupid... CX is being silly. ( considering the same manager is designing the new First, business, PE and Y for the 777-9 THIS sort of stupid cost cutting does bode well)
transplanting tv's IS NUTS...
the new TV's would have put CX way ahead of all regional competitors, now its just the same...

That means we're going to see some KLM-style seats! At least it is more responsive than the old system.

Interesting - HKG-LHR flight in two weeks time is still showing seat maps as 3-3-3.

Maybe because they were sold as 3-3-3...
