Drinks at the Deck are self-served. I would not be expecting lounge staff to wander around the Deck to fill up my glass with that bottle of Mumm which is otherwise sitting in the fridge next to the noodle bar.

There is a smaller selection of food compared to the other lounges due to the limited serving area. I would not go to the Deck and expect a big buffet - the same way I would avoid the Bridge for Chinese noodles nor the Wing for peace + quiet.

Btw if you're in that corner of the airport and have access, the QF lounge next door features a larger selection of food options and more interesting still wines.

That is not what I meant by "drinks not replenished" - the self-serve area itself was out of several drinks incl. bonaqua water and they weren't restocked even after a period of time.

I understand each lounge is and should be different in terms of offering, but I found both the variety and selection at the Deck to be disappointing, and worse than even the arrival lounge.

Personally I don't get the hype about QF lounge among bloggers and FTers - maybe I had high expectations when I first visited late last year - did not like it as much as the Wing/Pier/Bridge in terms of both decor and food (did not try the wines), but agree on a larger selection than the Deck (which is not hard to accomplish).

I visited The Deck for the first time about a week ago. At the time, it was horribly crowded and fairly noisy; didn't help that noise from the terminal can be heard from inside the lounge, of course. Basically, a typical CX lounge in the current design style, so pretty nice. The nearby QF lounge has far more food offerings and has always been less crowded for me (on the occasions I've gone), so QF would probably be my choice if my gate is in that area.

I don't expect I'll visit The Deck again.

The only reason to visited the Pre-Deck was the Hong Kong style Roast Pig and soups. Now that that's gone.

Another reason to go was it had very comfortable sofas before that you can sit, or lay down and rest on, but that's gone too.

Really no reason to be there even if you're departing from the gates right below it. Use the Wing and then walk over.

I concur, The Deck is way too crowded, and definitely not worth the effort. The food options are even less desirable than that of the other lounges. I'd say The Deck is a much smaller version of the Pier catering for the same amount of people.

Very sad to see The Cabin close and be replaced with this

I'm finding that first thing of a morning The Deck is pretty good, but man does it fill up fast...

I remember when The Pier first opened it was packed, once the novelty wore off things became quieter and people went off to other lounges instead. I expect the same will happen here.

And I don't recall the Pier being packed at all since revamp? Except at latenight hours, which is still a phenomen in F if a bunch of Europe flights depart nearby. Definitely not one of novelty.

I see it staying more like The Cabin: packed. The Cabin opened back about 8 years ago, and was pretty much packed until it closed last month, despite it being not one of the top lounged HKG. I think location has a big thing to do with that.

Unfortunately The Cabin and The Deck share a few more similarities. Both are relatively close to east side security, whereas Pier is out on the far end. And both Cabin and Deck are small....Deck is even smaller in a psf basis than Cabin. Plus shower rooms were added at Deck. I don't think any of these factors are going to help with crowding.

One might say as G16, the lounge was never very crowded. But it was still called the KA lounge by attendants and often confused as such by passengers, and was known as the obviously ugly ducking of the otherwise nice CX lounges in HK. Now that it's up to standard, smaller in size, has showers, AND the Cabin is permanently closed, I can't see why it will thin out much. It's very small. Pier J, on the contrary, is enormous. Simply enormous.

For a time The Pier got busy. Perhaps not right at the beginning, but once people knew about it for a little while it got very busy. Then once everyone had been a couple of times it quietened down.

I think CX has created a problem for themselves closing The Cabin. I expect The Wing will see the bulk of those passengers and it really doesn't have the capacity. They may start turning passengers away.

At lunchtime at the QF lounge yesterday, I was allowed to leave the lounge from the "backdoor" to slip into the Deck. All I had to do was ask one of the nice staff to open it for me.

A much shorter commute if you like an extra slice of the QF salted caramel cheesecake before your date with Mumm at the Deck.

I actually really enjoyed The Cabin as well, I felt it was very underrated... especially for earlier, morning departures when the sun isn't shining too bright yet. I would even have preferred The Cabin to The Wing if they had showers.

The views from the windows is definitely a plus.

After spending a nice time at the Qantas lounge, I decided to pop into the Deck lounge just before 11 in the morning. It was well populated but seats could still be found, even in the interior where the nicest seats are. My main issue is the seats that are in the 'outside' part aren't real comfortable. Most people seemed to agree with me as this area was mostly empty. It's too bad because this is otherwise a nice place to sit, being cheerier with nice views and light. Hopefully over time they'll improve the seating there. Otherwise I found the lounge a nice place to pass a little time. The noodle bar is always a welcome sight. The drink and other food options are a big limited, but that's just part of the limited space.

Agreed with the seating situation at the balcony. CX wasted this space and its view. Wish they built another Long Bar in the same place instead.
