IIRC, the QF back door was only open in the evening before. The whole back section of the lounge past the buffet was closed the last time I was there during the day (mid 2017). Maybe things have changed.

I think they can keep the back door closed as they have a door release in the case of emergencies.

oh yeh. They only man the door (and use it) when there are flights from qf leaving from those gates, and for ba in the evening.

If the shortcut was still open, I was just thinking - I can so see that the opening of The Deck could cause CX's partner lounge bill to skyrocket lol

It wld be convenient to visit the Deck via using the QF lounge as a thoroughfare (QF bills CX for CX metal pax - kaching thank you very nuch)

CX will probably kick and scream (and lobby HKIA to somehow shut down the exit). OTOH QF would be happy to claw back plenty of revenue it pays to CX for its own members lounge crawls.

But as they say in real estate - Location, location, location.
I have little sympathy frankly for QF, which has woefully under-invested in its route network and air and ground product in Asia in recent times. Luckily we all have CX.

cx is packed of foreigners from the north anyways. Sickeningly disturbing To find qf worse. But my experience is they are better- limited experience tho.

I assume the door will re-open when The Deck opens, as the stairs to access The Deck will be in use once again.
I both assume so and hope so

One thing to note - the Deck is having their usual PR event on the opening day, and won't be open to the public until the evening of March 22:

The Deck is expected to open to business class travellers and eligible frequent flyers in the early evening of Thursday March 22.

FYI: media preview and official opening of The Deck slated for 12.45pm to 2.30 on March 22, so fingers crossed for a late arvo opening [I'll ask at the preview and will be sure to include details on the tweetstream at @AusBT]

Cabin Lounge closing

Anyone have insights as to why the Cabin Lounge is closing?

Too much lounge capacity? Persistent air conditioning issues?

While it wasn't my favorite lounge at HKG, I will miss the juice bar.

Soft opened? Saw a thorough p/review/walkthrough on instagram. Looks nice enough. Showers resemble LHR/Pier J rather than Pier F. The food, if really 'Sodexoed', looks deceiving enough for those not in the know. Some of the furniture strangely reminds me of AMEX Centurion lounge.
