Despite strong preferences for particular seats, the seats are all just fine. Couples usually take one of the center pairs unless they're not getting along. My spouse likes 1A/1K, because they're together but "quiet" of FA traffic. Not that it really matters...

I prefer 3DG. 4DG is too close to the galley.

I get along with my wife so I don't need row 1's separation

That's funny. In another thread an FT'er points out that a female relative of his won't take row one because a strange man might be assigned opposite her, personal-space-violatingly close.

I have my first CX flight in a few weeks (F LAX-HKG, then on to AKL). I've reserved 1A on the 747, and a friend who has changed plans had 1K. Are 1 A/K quite close together? I like the idea of a pilot's kind of view(though small)from the 1A window - any thoughts on that?
Thanks for the input; like Psychiatrist, I want to maximize the experience, which I've been told will spoil me forever.

according to what i've gathered on this forum, 1A and 1K are pretty close together -some people even feel it's TOO close together for strangers !!

but if you're travelling with a friend, should be ok.

the view is supposed to be better there too .... let's see what our seasoned F flyers have to say about this !!

It is further apart than the aisle width in coach; maybe that gives you some perspective about how spoiled some F flyers are. Those seats are several feet apart. It is possible to hold hands between those seats, but only barely. Similarly barely possible to carry on a conversation. While 2A/K are about 5 feet apart. The whole discussion about F seats and difference between 744 and 777, etc. is absurd, when compared to J or Y it ranges from "better than you believed possible" to "far better than you believed possible" and is that any better, really? I say that, having come off a far, far, far better than I believed possible flight.

I love CX F - it is the best! Beats BA hands down...
What do people love most about CX F?
It's the caviar for me!

I just did 3 long haul segments in CX F (LAX-HKG, HKG-JNB, JNB-HKG) with one more to go (HKG-LAX). I also did 2 regional CX J (HKG-SIN-HKG). Two of the flights were all that and more JNB-HKG(F) and SIN-HKG(J) on a 2 class plane), it was everything I ever heard about CX and the service. One of the flights was above average, but there were some issues, it was the HKG-JNB(F). The other, LAX-HKG(F) and HKG-SIN(J) had different but MANY issues. The HKG-SIN(J) was by far the worst, and on any given day AA service beat it by miles. The LAX-HKG(F) was nothing what I've read here. I was very disappointed, especially since it was my first CX F flight during this nice vacation. I'm in the process of writing a trip report which I should post on or around March 8/9 when I get home.

Not all CX flights are created equal.. This is just my opinion and nobody has to agree, but that is the truth.
