Cathay AA awards
Trying to get a AA Business award on CX to BKK in late october and have little luck. Has anyone ever backtracked from West coast USA to toronto or JFK to get up and over to BKK? Seems a longer trip but a good use of the award.
Also seems it takes AA alot of work to find seats for C Class when you call them, anyone know of a easier way to do that? Hate when they have to spend so much time looking at each flight for seats
Thanks!

I've been extremely frustrated lately trying to get any award travel on oneworld partners. I don't know if they're reduced award capacity, more people are cashing in, or both. Either way, I've way reduced my valuation of miles since I can't use them.

I find that CX's award inventory is about the same for AA's. However, lately, it's because CX has indeed limited the amount of award inventory for 'show' and thus seats are showing 'zero'. CX prefers to give priority for its own members who can waitlist for an award flight till it clears.

I, too, have been frustrated by the unavailability of CX awards using AA miles specially in FC. I tried to get it for SFO-HKG and started looking for availability starting with Sept. 1. According to the AA agent, there was not a single FC seat available for award until February 2003. A check of the actual paid seat availability on various dates showed F4 A4 J9 C9 etc. What's up with that? Hello, oneworld! Is it working? Not!

Does inventory for premium cabin awards tend to become more available as flight departure date approaches? For example, my experience with UA, is minimal\no availability say a month or 2 or 3 before departure date, but say during the final week before the actual flight and there's minimal chance of selling the many remaining seats, award seats become readily bookable. In other words, last moment bookings are there on UA. Wonder if its similar with CX?

Best is to call CX res and ask them. When they pull availability up , they automatically see the award seat availability along with the revenue inventory. Just ask which flight has "U" for Business availability, or "Z" for First Class availability.

On a related topic, does anyone know when CX/AA changed the booking class on the AAdvantage award (40X) to Z from A when upgrading Full Business fares to First Class?
This change from A to Z has caused a lot of trouble in getting the upgrade!
