Transit at the Wing
I will be flying DEL-HKG-LHR on Sep 24. I will be through-checked to LHR, but I want to go into town for a few hours while in transit. I haven't had a problem doing that in the past, but this time I want to go first to the Wing, shower, and then head in to town.
If I leave the arrivals floor and go up to the Wing, will I have a problem going back down to the arrivals floor an hour later to go through immigration?

In my understanding, although I have never tried it personally, you will not be able to do this. Departing and arriving passengers are strcitly separated at HKG. I don't know of any way to get back to arrivals once you are in departures, although I guess it must be possible if, for example, you have to postpone your departure after you are airside.
One other option would be to get a day room at the Regal Airport hotel. The charge is HKD100 per hour, although there is a minimum charge of 3 hours I believe.

yes, follow the direction i gave here before.
the trick is to use the "elevator/lift" (i.e. moving metal box) for transit purpose, instead of "escalator" (moving stairs with handrail)
--- is this how these objects are defined in the english language?

If you get tired of people asking the same questions, simply don't reply.
Oh and by the way, what's the best BC seat on a 747?

pegasus8228, why would it matter if I use the lift or excalator? Either way if I have a same day boarding pass I sould be able to get to the departure level and the Wing. What am i missing?

bp888, getting to the Wing is not a problem if you have a same-day boarding pass. If you want to exit the airport after using the Wing then there's a problem. You cannot exit from the Departures floor and if you go through the security area near the escalator they will not let you back into the arrivals area.
pegasus8228, thanks for the links. Where does the lift open out to on the Arrivals floor? Is it near the security checkpoint or somewhere where I can be quite sure of being able to exit safely?

the escalator goes only 1-way. so it does not take you back to the arrival level.
the 'lift' will take you back to the arrival hall. (the same lift that takes you upstairs)
i think the levels # are
level 7: the wing (F) and departure immigration
level 6: dep hall and the wing (J), the "pier"
level 5: arrival hall
the "magic" elevator is at the "triangle" and you want to go to level 6 for J-lounge and level 7 for F-lounge.
you can get the transit BP from the transit desk near the elevator. otherwise, just ask any staff for transit direction.
they check your BP and hand baggage before letting u go into the elevator on level 5.
but no one checks you on level 6/7
see this for the floor plan of HKG
http://www.hkairport.com/eng/facilit...l/terminal.htm
move thr cursor to lower left cornet of transfer area (T), you will see legend "E2". that is where the elevator is located
the pier will be near "W1".
in that HKG site you will also able to view the various major lounges if you click through it.
olafman: thanks for your comment. i am usually lazy and just put out the keyword for people to search. but i recall this is probably from the archive, and i don't know what good keyword i could suggest
--in fact, it took me a while to find it myself

I actually have a 645am arrival into HKG and a 1145pm departure the same day. From reading this thread and another it sounds liek I would have to deplane get my bags and recheck them? Because Cathay will not check my bags through to SYD with a 20hour layover?
Also, I see there are left luggage lockers so I could drop my bags and see the city.

they should check your bags through
if not go through immigration turn right in Hall B under the biplane (outside Carousel 13) take the lift upstairs one floor and you are at CX checkin
Checkin and get boarding pass then go off to the city
It's 30 degrees and humid so you will get a shower as you walk

I have done this many times : go through
T2 connecting point , go through security
check..take the elevator to your right and
go up to the departure level and go into
the FC lounge...And reverse the process when
you are ready to leave the airport..The
security people will look at your boarding
pass and let you go through the back of the
screening machine : and you'll be back to
where you start off : at the arrival level.
And off you leave the airport through
Immigration , etc.
Hope this helps
