Name spelling error on ticket

Hi I accidentally spelt my first name wrong when purchasing a ticket online (traveling with Cathay Pacific), I called the website straight away and they said they could change it for a fee of $190 AUD. I am not willing to pay that amount to remove one letter in my name. Do you think it will be ok to board my flight and pretend I didnt know about the spelling error?

Name: Frederick
Name on ticket: Ffrederick

Yes, no problem, errors like this occur regularly, just make sure to allow extra time at the airport upon travelling.

No problem. You are allowed a certain number of errors. Nobody will care about the second F in Frederick.

Yummybunny69, welcome to Flyertalk.

As this is about a CX ticket, we'll move this thread to the CX forum.

I would seriously recommend that OP get this fixed before departure if possible, even if it is very likely that he will be allowed to board regardless. If your port of departure does not have a fully functional CX ticketing desk, and the check-in agent refused to let you board, you might be in trouble. Very small chance, but I would not take it.

Like another post, seems like many airlines are lenient, but again, all it takes is one person that is stickler to rules to deny you, and you can do nothing about it because you have made an error, and the rule specifically states the names must match.

Even if someone can guarantee you that you have 90% success rate, I would still spend the $190 AUD.

Can the OP go to a different checkin counter if he’ll get denied? Hoping the other staff would be more lenient?

I just booked a ticket with ca with aa miles. They misspelled my name. AA has been trying to get it corrected for 2 weeks. I am departing from ord so I know the tsa will not let me through security if the names don't match. YMMV

OP, if I were you, I would just pay the fee and get it fixed. Not worth the trouble IMO.

I wish I could pay a fee and get it fixed but not an option.

Cancel the ticket and buy a new one. Consider the fees associated with that your change fee.

I would certainly also do it. Paying AUD 190 to remove 1 letter from your first name (it is not even your last name) would be crazy. The generak rule is that up to 4 erroneous letters are allowed (don't ask me where I got this rule of thumb from as I don't know it).

The chance that the extra f in your first name will be an issue at check-in is very close to zero.

(just go to different check-in counter if one agent makes a fuss about it).

Cathay Dragon 666 mine is a miles ticket in F ord/hkg. If I cancel the ticket there is no F availability so at best i could only re-book in bus.
