My nephew (age 23) is traveling in economy class with my parents (his grandparents) from DEL to LAX on Jun 19th CX 698/CX 898 who are in Business class seats.. Both my parents will be wheelchair bound and my nephew is the designated caretaker for travel after my dad's brain surgery recently.. All 3 have been redeemed through my miles as i am in AA Ex. Plat.. Is there anyway for my nephew to be able to get lounge access with them or is there anyone with Cathay Pacific mileage status who can take a guest to the lounge.. Please PM me if you can.. Also does anyone know if DEL lounge (Plaza?), which i believe isn't operated by Cathay, will provide access in this scenario..
Thanks
Thanks

Based on my recent experience guesting in someone to a PPL (Plaza lounge), I hold the membership and it entitles me to a guest. Do your nephew or either of your parents have PP membership (either owned or via AMEX Plat)?Originally Posted by zuluzus

Without it, I imagine the only way to get it is with a lounge invitation (like the one CX issues for the PPL at YYZ etc), or to pay.
Am I correct in understanding your post, that the seats you redeemed for your parents is in Biz Class?
If yes, then I would assume that seat/ticket would include access to a lounge.
CX experts here can confirm.
No idea what the lounge access rules on a reward ticket state or whether those rules include the caregiver.
For Cathay Business passengers, they do not allow guest access. For First Class passengers they allow one guest. And unfortunately your One World Emerald doesn't help your family. If they have a Priority Pass there are some nice choices in HKG. As a last resort, you may be able to sweet talk one of the Cathay lounge attendants into letting your nephew in, saying he needs to assist the business passengers he's with. Worth a try.

Most PP memberships charge about US$30 per guest.Originally Posted by 24left

So how about onboard? How is your nephew going to take care of your parents if they need caretaker during the short lounge visit? Wouldn't it make more sense to upgrade him to J which would solve both problems?
Also in case of an emergency evacuation, would your parents need assistance? Would your nephew be enough to assist both of your parents? FAs won't be able to assist them in such case.
Not sure on what your budget is , but as others have said I would look into a paid upgrade for your son or paying for a different lounge like Plaza Premium. I have yet to have my first CX lounge experience , that will change in 2 weeks, but I assume they will not let him in.
I understand you want to be kept together , but if your folks need that much attention when in the lounge then I wouldn't of recommended your son to be in a different cabin when flying. I have noticed J crew do not take a liking to visiting family members from another cabin ( just a heads up)

.OP redeemed AA miles for all tickets, if you read. Will CX offer paid J upgrades on AA award Y for both segments? Kind of doubt it. Doesn't seem like much of a suggestion.
Have to wonder how wise it is to have a caretaker in a different cabin myself, but if there is only so many miles to go around, I guess you do what you can.
The suggestion for OP to pay out of pocket for Priority Pass is a good idea, as opposed to begging folks on the board for a favor as your first post...

Also - as harsh as it sounds, even your parents are sitting in J, it does not mean both of them have to use the lounge.
Lounge access enhances travel experience, but is not mandatory.

This all depends who is manning the desk , only you are entitled to the lounge and not your dad - so i would expect a no. Worth a try thou ....Originally Posted by boybi
How about if I have lounge access, can I just let my companion (my dad) take my place? I'll just wonder around the airport.

They don't check ID, so you can just swap boarding passes and give him the lounge invite.Originally Posted by Flame3601
