The seat in J is exactly the same as the CX J seat and the food is much better (gobsmackingly so!) The overall flight time is about 5-6 hours longer but the flatbed makes this bearable plus there is a break in Dallas. A mattress and Pyjamas are given to J passengers which does not happen on CX. Also there is no extremely annoying mid-flight lights-on meal service. The mid flight snack is done in the dark (decent beef sliders were served on my last flight) With the other meals being served after takeoff and just before landing. Bar the shorter flight time I cant think of any benefit to flying CX on this route especially at four times the price of a J ticket.

If you do decide to book this flight make sure your flight from DFW to NYC has a different flight number to the HKG-DFW otherwise you will only earn miles for HKG-NYC direct, ignoring the DFW stop. (costing aprox 4k miles)

For your information, AA137/8 HK DFW will change to AA125/6 next month onwards, I have got notifications for my 3 flights in the next 6 months for such changes. So no way you have the same flight number.

There is one flight to/from LGA that has the same flight number as HKG - DFW. It is still bookable on the AA website. If you take this flight miles will be credited as HKG-LGA direct rather than two separate flights even though a change of plane happens in Dallas.

There are quite a few AA flights like this, see this thread for details

Currently AA are offering HKG-EWR in J for HKG15,880 for many dates over the next year with a transfer in DFW.

Example here

The CX flight for the same day in J is HKD93,436....

That's insane. I've taken the liberty to copy this to the premium deals thread.

To be fair CX doesn't publish its cheapest fares to ITA or wherever google flights gets its data from. But booking directly with CX website still sees a fare of $70k.

The AA flight also nets you 20 more club points and 4236 more Asia miles.

No wonder Cathay is having problems

Wow, that deal is nuts. The departing/arriving hours aren't great but you really save a ton if you're flexible with the hours.

Just for comparison, roundtrip J on AA for HKG-DFW-EWR will net 220TP for MPC vs 480 status credits for QFF. HMMM....
