CX has been having the lowest luggage allowance for so long. All other major asian airlines have been giving 30KG for Y, even AirAsia is giving 40KG for their "J" flyer. 20KG without the ability to purchase extra luggage at a reasonable rate sounds like a joke.

Is this really going to be an "enhancement" for DM's or are they actually going to get stricter on us and more lenient with the lower tier members...?
Until now, ex-NA it has been very easy for me to take 4 pieces or sometime even 5 without paying (when travelling in J). Been taking a minimum of 4 pieces 8 times a year for the past 5 years... many times even 5 pieces and never paid a cent in excess.
We shall see next month I suppose!

Grrrr!! It's only for TICKETS issues from 15/09/16, not those travelling after those dates.
How many people who've bought in advance will be annoyed by this!!
It will make it annoying for check in staff too, having to see when the ticket issue date was etc. and will make many pax annoyed who misunderstand the difference and why the person in the queue in front of them got to take a load more stuff than them.
It's about time CX increased it to 30 as my prime alternative route to Australia is with QF/EK and while not my first choice, the extra 10Kgs was always a factor in the decision making process - especially as CX was always more expensive in Y.

With this "enhancement" I can probably consider CX/KA again.

Very few routes get more than 1*23kg in economy.
MU does indeed give 2*23kg on most (but not all) routes. http://us.ceair.com/muovc/newsite/ma...s/Baggage.html
And CZ is very route specific (1*23kg, 1*32kg, 2*23kg): http://global.csair.com/HK/GB/INFO/XLFW/CKBA

"It all happens on 15 September
The enhanced check-in baggage allowance applies to tickets issued or exchanged on or after 15 September 2016. The new cabin baggage allowance and extra baggage charges applies to travel on or after 15 September 2016, regardless of the date the ticket was issued or exchanged."
I must still be sleepy. Took me a while to work out CX is trying to say new baggage allowance is by ticketing date >= 15/9/16.
Greater cabin is a complete red herring as I don't remember any KA flight where baggage is actually weighed...wonder what kind of an occupy the gate crew will get if they do.

I heard somewhere (before 15/9) the unpublished "actual" check-in baggage allowance for Y is 25kg (I once checked a 25kg suitcase just fine, but I was then traveling with 2 others and total was less than 3*20kg). I wonder if they'll still do +5kg buffer, or have already included the buffer (if exists) in this "enhancement".
I guess the increase is timed just after the school commencement season where loads of kids carry bulks of supplies around?
Compared to the old rates (http://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_H...e-charges.html), cost per weight for most journeys is cheaper/same except
- From/To Zone 1 except Hong Kong (except Japan & Russia which are moved from Zone 2 to 1)
- Hong Kong - Australia/New Zealand (which are moved from Zone 3 to 4)
but the cost per piece is so expensive, that if they ever charge so it must be more expensive than before change.
Compared with several LCC's fees at airport counter (all equiv. HKG-Zone 1):
- JW: 9.8USD/5kg(=2USD/kg)
- UO: 26USD/5kg(=5.2USD/kg)
- CX: 10USD/kg
- AK: 15.5USD/kg
- TZ: 18.6USD/kg
