20A has only one window, and it's closer to the storage unit/passenger's head. If you want a brighter/more open experience, I would recommend another seat. It is a little dark.

I like 19A/K.

after some research, i went with 14A since it's farther away from the L2 galley.

how was 19A/K as far as galley noise and foot traffic?

Looking at seatguru, if we can get the above seats behind the exit door with comparable legroom and likely reclining seats since the exit door isn't behind them, wouldn't it be cheaper to pay for these seats rather than sitting out and bidding potentially more money on the premium economy seats? Has anyone done a thorough comparison between these seats?

Thanks!

I think you have posted this in the wrong forum. This is the Cathay Pacific forum, not the Singapore Airlines forum. You'll probably get an answer there.

The lavs are forward on the A/D aisle, so there's less foot traffic in 19 than 14. On my flight, all the galley prep was done from the forward galley which left row 19 nice and quiet. I would think that this is different for a long haul though.

Interesting. I know it probably won't stick due to the regional lotto but i just noticed my HKG-SIN in J is showing 359. Crossing my fingers it stays that way on 10/18

I'm seeing it as well for my year end flights.

Is the A350-1000 meant to be deployed on some long-haul routes currently operated by the 77H? I wonder if this type will be a direct replacement for some of CX's older 777-300ER's.

The current outline for A350-1000 operations will be regional missions along with taking over certain Australian & NZ routes post 2018. Looking at the current O&D sheet, I'd imagine some of the 77Ws will be replaced by the A350-1000 and most by the 777-9.

I think CX has said that the 350s won't have any FCL which means they can't swap it for the 77H.

Correct, most of the 77Hs will eventually be replaced by the 779 while the 77Gs are interchangeable with the A350.

That leaves 6 more this year if Ivan and Airbus are to reach their target - pretty ambitious. Granted 7 and 8 only have to have a few flight tests and they will be ready to be delivered but Cathay seems far from eager to get any recent delivery. Number 9 is having its cabin fitted out which has always been a long operation for Cathay's units, while 10 and 11 are still undergoing rectification work. They have been there for weeks if not months, certainly far longer than it to too assemble them. Then 12 has been in the paint hanger for nearly 3 weeks suggesting that it is being used for parking unless Cathay requires a latter day Leonardo job.

The intriguing question for me is where they will be deployed if Airbus reaches its target. Starting next month the utilisation will be pretty clear with 34 unit nights away from Hong Kong each week or 84%. Then nothing more. If Cathay takes delivery of 6 by the end of the year and another which is already assembled in January that will more than double capacity, yet the next deployment announced is Melbourne in February, and that will only require 7 nights away from Hong Kong each week. Another should come in March but the only announced deployment is Vancouver in April requiring 3 nights away from Hong Kong each week. So where are they all going? The 3 340s will be out, but what else? Return leased 330s to owner? Transfer more 330s to Dragonair? Anything else?

No doubt 20A was the only window seat left when I swap my booking to an A359 operated flight (to TPE only... Anyway)

Also if I will be in 20A I'll very likely simply stand at gate and board last.... Simply don't want to have a bunch of people queue up next to my seat during boarding...

Fortunately subsequently 17K opened and I just swapped in to grab 17K instead immediately :D

p.s. Could anyone please put this info to the seat selection wiki section? Thanks

Kinda like a Mandarin Oriental ad: I'm a fan. OUR normal long-haul on CX is ORDHKG but we've also done HKG-LAX/MEL/SYD and all usually 773/330; shorter haul to SIN/BKK/TYO as well.

Last Monday I took 197 to HKGAKL, 198 back the next day--seats 31E (second from aisle) then 32D (aisle). The only things I do NOT like better than any previous PEY equipment has to offer is the non-dedicated lav (gotta make the walk of shame thru curtain about 10 rows back) and the fact the middle seat arm rests do not raise (for my short wife to snooze). The seats are superior in comfort and design, the bigger/higher def screen is great (and I played Angry Birds without any hiccups), remote more intuitive, I like the shoulder and perfectly aimed overhead light, the leg rests are universal now and resemble the regional biz, the 2" extra pitch is definitely noticeable in trying to scoot past seat neighbors & reaching for TV, and the dang thing was quieter than older planes. Overhead bins are big but angled oddly, they don't come down a flat as the 773 which will make a bit of a routine for shorter folks to reach up into them.

Although not on this site's A350 route information, an ISM mentioned that there was talk of the plane resuming the extra 3x weekly freq into ORD that were transient two years back. Timing on that was great and I'd rather have this beast on that rather than the 773 (I buy PEY and only luck into biz).
