Online upgrade award functioning?
Does the upgrade a flight Online functions for anyone? I don't recall the last time when clicking on upgrade this flight on manage my booking has NOT resulted in a red flag message stating there is an error, to close the browser and restart. (Any browser, MAC or Windows). Is there a workaround ?

I'm curious - can anyone confirm whether it ever work for them? I know it never worked for me either. I'm beginning to wonder whether CX created the link/site to show it is a (somewhat) IT savvy airline but didn't (or haven't had a chance to) work on the actual coding in the background.

I booked a y->PEY one way upgrade on line about 6 weeks in advance of flight HKG-MEL in June 15. That particular flight was not heavily booked in either Y or PEY. Likely the load factor in PEY was higher on the day.
Note you will need an M class (or higher) fare to upgrade from Y or an W/R class for PEY.

Has worked for me once in the years that I've been trying to use it. Late last year, three days out, thought I'd see if I could upgrade from J to F on HKG-LAX. I was shocked to see that it worked and the upgrade was available so I ticketed immediately without a problem. Since it's never worked for me since, I can only assume it was a "glitch" in the CX system.
