Lunch with Ivan Chu
Ivan Chu is holding a lunch for some DMs in a couple of weeks' time, which I was finally able to respond to quickly enough to squeeze in!
I wondered (a) if anyone here was also going since I might meet a fellow FTer and (b) what are the broadest set of interesting topics for us as passengers at the moment (obviously anything on the new MPC will be of interest although much as I dislike the virtual absence of salt and pepper in business class, I sense Ivan will know as much as John Slosar did about this - as in, not very much).

I cannot go, but you could tell Mr Chiu for me (if you were so inclined):
- My loyalty to CX decreases after I renew DM each year as a result of the way they have MPC structured
- He should fly SQ's regional business class and compare it to CX's - especially the seat comfort and food quality
- Frequent flyers notice the cost cutting (e..g salt and pepper)

Tell him to learn from Apple, not from China, on how to treat their employees well and everybody feels well, and the company make money.
Many people bailed their own home-based airlines for CX for a quality of products across the board (Seats, IFE, food, drinks, etc.) and services. Why would CX want to be like the other airlines that have proven people will bail on?
CX is only getting away with it because they're effectively a monopoly in HK, but as China gets better and HK becomes less and less relevant I wonder how much longer that will last.

Please mention the arbitrary meal timings on transpac. Midflight meals are always bad, but especially so when the menu clearly says 2nd meal before landing but the crew suddenly decides to serve a midflight meal because they feel that too many people are ordering snacks. Not a consistent J experience.

Also please mention the apparent and continued downgrade on F&B - both in quality and quantity. I guess this is most noticeable in J...it is bad!

They claimed too many pax complain about being hungry and the snacks don't satisfy them.

Then they should serve a bigger first meal and/or better snacks. The real reason is that they don't load enough snacks, and the FAs serve the 2nd meal to forestall pax being angry because there are no more snacks. Cost-cutting gone wild.

Funny thing about the snacks. I ordered a burger like three hours before landing thinking it was well out by then (seeing they supposedly only load four of them), but to my surprised they had one for me and even offered more if I wanted.
Anyways Moscowflyer, would you please ask the man why when they do the safety video and it says "The cabin crew will indicate your closest exit now," that they only do it for the English part of the video and not the Chinese portion? I can't imagine it being difficult showing it twice, and yes I do watch the video every single time and look up at the cabin crew to show my nearest exits.
