Exit row review

Having had two long haul sectors in row 43 of the 77G recently, I have to say that it isn't worth the money for non-MPC members to fork out for a seat on this row. Even though I had 43A, I was initially surprised to find that this row is windowless. No biggie here, as I would either be sleeping or using the IFE to entertain myself even though I do like to peak out the window from time to time. But then the rest of the issues with the row surfaced as soon as I tried to sleep. It's already annoying to have a line forming in front of the washroom, but when you have a door that opens periodically (sometimes in an excess of 10 seconds), it really interferes with your attempt to fall asleep, not to mention that it is fairly easy to be able to hear the sound of the toilet flushing if you don't have anything over your ears. And finally it truly is more comforting to look at the IFE screen from an upright position, instead of needing to tilt your head slightly downwards to look at the screen that folds up from the floor. Fortunately I was tired enough to fall asleep relatively quickly, these just some observations I noticed when I was still half awake. One more potential nitpicking issue, which isn't really a problem to me but may be for some, is that it lacks a cupholder, as well as a folding tray table from the armrest comparatively smaller than the ones behind standard Y seats. Probably not ideal for those wanting to make the seat their workspace during the flight.

So to conclude, best seats in Y on the 77G are still 39 A/C and H/K, first row behind Y+ with only a divider in between. It's got ample legroom as well as being rows away from any galley or toilets. If I can't get those then I will see if there's anything else I can salvage before the flight. I'm not saying that emergency exit row Y seats must be avoided at all costs, I just don't think it is justifiable to pay extra cash or miles for it. FYI I didn't pay for the seat, CX assigned it after I requested it through a phone call. Probably one of those benefits they honor for MPC members.

Only perk of being on this row is that you are in pole position for the race to the bathroom as soon as the seat belt signs are off, and a little chit-chat with the FA sitting in front of you before deplaning begins.

Agreed. No idea why people would pay to sit next to toilet. I would avoid it if given a choice

And when you have crying babies, many times people jiggles the baby right there. Years ago I was on JFK-HKG flight sitting in Y exit row - there were probably half a dozen or so babies on board that day (and a bunch of toddler) and they all took turn to hang out by the exit row ...

Oh yes, the 'nanny run' !

Many nannies hold DM status just by doing these flights between China and NYC !
