Baggage Allowance for a stopover
Hi, I'm planning on flying out of Chicago to Hong Kong and stop in Hong Kong for a week before flying to Japan for a exchange program and was confused about the baggage allowance for the Hong Kong to Japan flight. Does the 2 pieces at 50lbs each allowance from the first leg of the trip still apply? Or does it not apply since my stopover is a week long? I called twice asking Cathay Pacific but they gave contradicting responses. One said it no longer applies because my stopover is over 24 hours, while the other said that it still applies as long as it's all on one ticket. I also asked my travel agent and she said the same thing as the 2nd person. I'm really confused now and was hoping someone could clarify this for me. Thanks!

This is something I wanted to ask as well. My wife has a recent trip YVR-HKG-SIN-HKG-YVR on one ticket, staying in HKG after the first leg for more than a week, then to SIN and back and each stop staying a few days. I always thought for a trip originating from North America, baggage allowance will be 2 pieces throughout the trip. But her ticket shows 2PC for the long haul segments and 30K for HKG-SIN-HKG.
Is it something to do with the stopover not treated as a connection any more and what exactly is the rule?

It's supposed to be the piece system for the entire ticket. Problem is that cx are having rubbish agents picking up the phone these days and keep giving wrong info.

Seems like uve had a bad agent. When 1 leg of the entire ticket touches the Americas, the entire ticket turns turns to the piece system.
You could have stood by and forced it into 2pcs.

Btw, refer to this thread.

Download the relevant documents in case you need to challenge the agents

I think you will find because I stopped in HKG more than a day and I checked in again for the next sector some days later the baggage allowance switches to the route I was flying which was Japan and that was only one PC of baggage. For me it s not a big problem and the staff were very friendly about the whole thing. They just got a huge Cathay Pacific box and put my two bags inside it and taped it up to become one.

But I checked the rule on the web site again and no mention of the 24-hour limit as long as the trip touches America. I guess as Kaka said, better have the rules handy if under this situation.
