Just joined CX Green a week ago, got upgraded on the red-eye SIN-HKG CX714 2 days back. Simply asked at counter if an upgrade was possible and was told flight was overbooked and handed me a J BP!

There is a chance, but not high.

Hi again! Would you mind letting me know the current status of this flight again? Booked in Premium Economy (31D) and my fingers are still crossed for a potential OP-UP. :)

Thanks!

Awesome! Gotta love that. How was it? I have never flown J on CX.

There is almost zero chance of a W->J op-up.

With only F1 and F0 for the flights, yes, too ideal :D

FYI, end up used MPC guarantee for Y -> W, U seat opened and grabbed 3 days before departure, at check-in still being told F was full, but finally got cleared the appreciation card Z seat at gate :cool: Saw at least one other appreciation card upgrade BP during boarding but no idea it's to T, U or Z

For return sector... Struggled till boarding still no U opening (nor even an aisle seat in PEY...... :() ISM said 2 J seats were malfunction, but even that 2 seats were functioning it's still full (not verifiable so whatever she said must be "true"...)

Oh well. Thanks again for looking!

CX884

Quick question for the CX pro's..

Booked on CX 897 and 884 in PE (R class) for October travel. Upgraded the outbound day after booking, while waitlisted for the inbound. CX884 appears to be operated with the 77G which appears to have the lower density J cabin (40 seats vs. 53 on the 77H, per seatguru).

Wondering if the smaller J cabin reduces the likelihood of clearing the waitlist. Flight is on a Wednesday, if that matters.

My wife booked a R ticket in June. Her outbound SFO-HKG late September was cleared immediately, but she was waitlisted on her return HKG-SFO (CX872 on 77H) on her return late October. Instead of changing the return date, I used my miles to upgrade her (DM vs SL) and was cleared immediately.

Are you flexible to pick a different return date or flight?

Thanks for the reply cxfan1960. Not flexible with the return date but can take any of the 4 daily flights. This is what prompted the thought that the 77G is less likely to clear waitlist, given the lower J capacity.

Could you clarify "(DM vs SL)"

Award redemption availability is also affected by the status of the passenger and the Asia Miles sponsor (from low to high): Asia Miles member (AM), MPC Green (GR), MPC Silver (SL), MPC Gold (GO), MPC Diamond (DM), and MPC Diamond Plus (DMP). When my wife (a SL) had to waitlist for an upgrade in June, I (a DM) used my miles to secure the upgrade for her.

It may seem that availability should be higher for 77H because there are more J seats, but CX may already have put 77H at a time slot preferred by their J passengers.

This was my feeling as well.. Somewhat of a dark science I suppose

I am so grateful for this thread. Just discovered it.
Two questions for a Newbie...

1. If your waitlist upgrade doesn't clear four days out, can you still try to upgrade using miles at the airport?
2. Can some one show me loads for cx807 (ord-hkg) on 17OCT and cx872 (hkg-sfo) on 20OCT. We are trying to upgrade from Paid Business (I) to First (Z?)? Would be so interested in the loads.

Thanks!

Yes

There is one more requirement if the passenger is not using his/her own miles. In addition to the passenger being on the Asia Miles sponsor's redemption list, both the passenger and his/her sponsor must be on the same flight.

If this is the case it would be entirely contrary to the conversation I had with the CX phone rep. My undertanding was that in order to process an instant upgrade, the passeneger needed to have the sponsor's information i.e. address, DOB, etc. but no mention of the sposnor needing to travel on the same flight.
