What a coincidence, my friend was 'saved' by Notifly just this week when he mistaken his 1:30am flight as 1:30pm 12 hours later!
He got the Notifly text at 11:30pm when he was in Tsim Sha Tsui. He rushed home (Sai Kung), packed and rushed to the airport on the same cab and boarded the flight during final call.
So I guess when Notifly works, it's a 'life-saver'!

I also must say Notifly has saved my time as well. Especially in China, thanks to Notifly I didn't have to needlessly go to the airport early when the plane was delayed, and in "secondary cities" that's great considering they won't let you even check-in and enjoy the lounge until 80-90 minutes before departure.

I do remember checking in at Xian a few years ago before KA stopped flying there the first time, and check-in didn't open until either 2 hours or 90 minutes before departure.

There are some lower-tier cities in the KA network with few frequencies I believe that restricts check-in time unfortunately. I cannot specifically remember if it is 90 or 120 minutes, but there is a very precise time and it's annoying because they stick to it to a T. I think I recall experiencing this in Xi'an, Chongqing, Changsha and Hangzhou. After a few encounters with it I quit going to the airport early. Usually there are just one or two actual KA employees, and the rest are contracted from the other airlines. Although they are sitting there clipping their nails or whatever, and a line is forming, they won't let you check-in until the clock hits the time.

That said, the latter also applies to many other CX destinations around the world, e.g. FRA and SYD.

This is why I don't get to the airport until 40-45 minutes before departure if I need to fly out of secondary cities, if you arrive early there will already be tons of people showing up trying to rush in as soon as they let you, and you will be waiting in line anyway. Might as well get there later, when the rush is over, and check-in without a line. (Of course now your local traffic well, if you are stuck in traffic then you're out of luck.)

Wow this is far more useful ... I should just opt out of notifly and stick w Google

ironically, Google is better at that than CX's Notifly. Just put in CX(xxx) flight number into Google and it will pull up the gate. Google combines the info from flightstats, the airport webpages and CX. Way better than Notifly. If you've got that Google Now app you don't even need to put it in...it usually knows your flight #s in advance (thanks to mining your emails presumably, which is a different debate), and so on the morning of your flight automatically pulls up the flight info for you. Google also usually has the arrival gate.

oh yea, that Google Now thing (or just typing the CX flight code into Google) at least has the same information as Notifly, and often it has more (or earlier) updates. So there's no downside unless you're in a place like China where Google products are periodically blocked.
