My understanding is that you can standby for award TKTs issued by CX on CX FLTs. However, if you have a UG TKT from Y that would be much more complicated.

Other airlines' award ticket need to be reissued by respective airlines first. CX may rightly refuse OP to standby unless ticket has been reissued in correct flight.
But they 'may' allow it on certain circumstances. But it is not guaranteed!
