Exit HKG While Transferring

I have a 9 hour layover at HKG, is it possible to hit the lounge first and then exit the airport? I suppose I need to clear security to get to the departure level, but can i get back to immigration from there?

Yes. But you need to be escorted out to the arrivals level. Then get back in through normal channels.

Hit the CX arrivals lounge after you clear immigration and customs and then hop aboard the airport express to get into town.

On your return, just clear thru the departure with your boarding pass and board the plane.

This is why I love HKIA and flying CX. Doing a nice day trip into HKG never gets old.

That is feasible only for F/C passengers and CX GO/DM and OW Emeralds. If OP is SL or Sapphire he'll need to do as Guy Betsy advised if he wants to access a lounge prior to leaving.

So, it's OK to first transit and grab a shower in The Wing/Pier etc, and then ask to go through immigration? Any eyebrows raised?

By the way, what is the status of the renovations? I'll be in F in January. Will I be impacted? Last time I was there (March 2010) the F dining room was horribly crowded mid afternoon. The waiters were behind on cleaning tables, and the whole place looked ugly!

Does anyone know if the Arrivals lounge offers luggage storage? Never had a same day transit in HKG, always 1-2 nights and don't want to stay at the airport for 12 hours...

I did this back in September when I had a long layover HND-HKG-JFK in F. Spent a couple hours doing work in The Wing before heading to meet a friend in the mid-levels. I was not escorted out, just handed a slip of paper and given directions back toward transit security. No one bat an eye. It felt really weird to clear immigration and security on the way back in with nothing but a phone, wallet and passport.

I did this a few times already. Assuming you have your onwad boarding pass go thru connection security, then upstairs to the Wing. Breakfast/Shower, ask to store your luggage and the piece of paper. Walk to the closest security checkpoint. They want to see the onward BP, passport and the paper. Then you walk backwards thru the security checkpoint, go downstairs and pass thru immigration as normal.
Coming back you just go back in thru security/immigration again.

Very easy, no eyebrows raised.

Exactly my experience. This can be a great alternative to clearing immigration right away if lines are long and/or it's during the morning crowding at The Arrival.

Great, that will be my plan, then. Thanks!
