I have made separate bookings:
PHL-ORD-CHA-ORD (bought with AA)
ORD (same day) - HKG (bought with CX)
My question is, since they are OW, even as separate bookings with two different airlines will the AA agent at AA be able to check my luggage all the way to HKG and print my CX boarding pass? Or do I have to drag all those luggage with me and wait 4 hours before CX gate opens and then redo check-in? (I arrive at ORD 8 a.m., CX check-in doesn't open till 12:00 p.m.)

You're going from PHL - ORD - CHA - and then back to ORD ???
If you're just doing PHL-ORD-HKG, then yes, AA should be able to thru check you all the way to HKG. And at ORD, CX agents will pull your bag out and stick a proper priority tag on your bag too !
Next time, book it as one ticket - it is possible, you know ..

Yes, AA can check you all the way to HKG and like Betsy said add a priority tag to your luggage.
As long as the AAgent you check-in with is experienced, this should not be an issue. You have 4 segments and that is, I believe, the maximum amount of segments that bags can be checked to.
Thanks for all the helpful replies. Perhaps I should make it more details:
I am going to CHA first for a business client, so say Monday I arrive at CHA and then it won't be till the following Friday that I will leave CHA for ORD for HKG.
By the way, last time I did PHL-ORD-HKG (straight up, no stops) the CX guys did not put any priority tags on my luggage. I had 2 of them and one has the old tag which came out first, but the second was tag-less so it, of course as luck would have it, came out last....

As long as the AA agent is trained properly, he or she should have no problem in interlining bags via 2 separate tickets. The AA agent might be able to print your boarding pass, and for interlining bag, they will ask you for ORD-HKG ticket number. Originally Posted by Cathay Boy

For me, I had no problem last month
YYZ-JFK-LAX, ticket 1
LAX-HKG, ticket 2
with AA priority tag, and an old CX First Class tag.
Came out in the first batch of bags in HKG
