I am going to CHA first for a business client, so say Monday I arrive at CHA and then it won't be till the following Friday that I will leave CHA for ORD for HKG.

By the way, last time I did PHL-ORD-HKG (straight up, no stops) the CX guys did not put any priority tags on my luggage. I had 2 of them and one has the old tag which came out first, but the second was tag-less so it, of course as luck would have it, came out last....
As long as the AA agent is trained properly, he or she should have no problem in interlining bags via 2 separate tickets. The AA agent might be able to print your boarding pass, and for interlining bag, they will ask you for ORD-HKG ticket number.

For me, I had no problem last month
YYZ-JFK-LAX, ticket 1
LAX-HKG, ticket 2
with AA priority tag, and an old CX First Class tag.
Came out in the first batch of bags in HKG
