Requesting a separate bed etiquette in F

My mother in law is taking F on CX from HKG to SFO. Midnight flight. This is her first time out of Y.

I have never taken F on CX, but when I take F on SQ and the cabin has spare seats near mine, I ask if they can make the spare seat a separate bed for me instead of using my current seat.

Does CX generally allow this? Any particular etiquette other than waiting until all pax boarded and asking politely?

TIA!

Cathay does the same thing a SQ. There's nothing to worry about, just ask after boarding and enjoy F on CX.

I can tell you from experience that if the suite next door is empty they will likely offer it, no need for her to even ask

No worries. We've done this before on both the new and old F configurations during light loadings and we've never had problem.

I've done this every time that I've flown F.

HKG-SFO is usually full in F in Dec/Jan until after CNY, so this is rather an academic problem . SQ HKG-SFO is much emptier in F, ime.
