Waitlist question...

Hello,

I do not fly very often, so please forgive me.

I am flying out of HKG to Vancouver on June 30th (confirmed), economy fare, fare basis "LEHKG" (lowest I'm assuming) I called into Cathay Pacific reservation office (HK #) in early June to request my flight to be changed from June 30 to either July 15 or 18.

I was told by the CSR at the time that all flights on those dates (or in all of July) were full. I asked what if I paid extra to 'upgrade' my fare class in order to confirm a seat. she told me that I would have to pay $330.00CDN in order to secure a seat which I was fine with.

However, she proceeded to tell me that $330CDN is a lot of money, and that I should place myself on the waitlist as I would have a great chance of getting the date change I wanted without having to pay (her words verbatim). So being naive, I believed her and happily hung up.

Fastfoward to 3 days ago, I called cathay pacific reservation office again and ask if my waitlist status has been moved up at all. The new CSR told me that the status was still the same, but also noted that I now have a slim chance moving up on the waitlist. So I told her that was fine, and that I'd like to pay the $330 to upgrade my fare class so I can change my date. However, the new CSR told me that all of those seats were 'gone', and only $630 fare upgrade seats were available.

Although it may be obvious that fares go higher approaching the requested dates, I am a bit annoyed that the initial CSR told me not to pay yet and even suggested that just wait it out on the waitlist, she could have at least mentioned that the price would go up by another $300CDN!

Is there anyone else I can talk to and explain my situation at the slim chance that I can get the original $330 fare upgrade?

sorry for the long read and thanks for your time

Call them again, ask to speak to the supervisor, explain the situation, and see if the supervisor is willing to give you a break. But probably not.

This is why I don't really trust their "friendly" suggestions anymore. Should of pick it up on the first try.

Anyway, sorry this happened to you, but make it a lesson learned.
