Just to report back ...

Ended up with about 30 kg luggage outbound and 47 kg inbound, and had absolutely no problem at all. The check-in staff at LHR did not even raise the subject of luggage allowance.

Wish CX can get their e-tickets sorted out though - it's not exactly very difficult to get right!
