Had a great relaxing 2 weeks in Barbados. In Holetown love Elbow Room, and also Zachios( which I remember as Cocomos) Our first night we were shattered so went to Surfside for a drink and ended up eating there. I would have to say their food is excellent. Hadn't expected that.
St Lawrence Gap- Pisces was my favourite- we went twice. Bellinis- afraid I got food poisoning. We liked Harlequins- great food and there seemed to be a lot of repeat customers. I hadn't even heard this one mentioned.
One evening I fancied flying fish( actually love the stuff and had it a few times on holiday) so what better place to go than the Flying Fish restaurant.
This was a great find. Not a fancy place but I was really impressed with the menu and if we had had more time we would have revisited. We had the flying fish done 3 ways and also had their macaroni pie to go with it- if you go there give both the fish and the macaroni a go- delicious.
We meant to try some of the out of the way restaurants but just never got round to it. Perhaps next time!

Glad to hear that you enjoyed Barbados and had a wonderful culinary experience - save the food poisoning part.
I am also encouraged by your last statement, want to try some off the beaten path restaurants.
I have one for you and another other adventurous traveler to Barbados.
If you really want to eat like a local and mingle with our Caribbean (Bajan) Cricketing Legends (Desmond Haynes, Holder etc,) ask your taxi driver to take you to Mother Cat at Holder's Hill.
I must apologise I don't remember the really name of the restaurant/rumshop but to us regulars it is known as Mother Cat.
Another good Saturday spot for midday drinks and local cuisine is Lemon Arbor.
Both these spots are worth checking out and you won't find them listed in those glossy tourist mags in your hotel room.
I highly recommend them both. You won't regret it.

eat where the locals eat
You are right- have done that in many destinations. One of our best ever places was a tin shack in Penang.
We did mean to explore further but just never got round to it this time- not like us really.

I'm AI which is something I never do but the price was outstanding.
We'll need to break out occasionally.
