Typically when people ask to reduce credit lines it is because they are worried that they are approaching the max that a particular issuer will extend. The OP just seems to lower lines as a prophylactic.
A bunch of us Churn the citi Hilton regularly...........I just got Hilton Visa #18.

There is a lot of talk asking some of us how we got approved for so many............my method is to lower the CL on every card to $1500 after I make the spend and thus far I'm batting 1000 with all instant approvals.

Cap one lowered my limit via chat with no problem.

I'm just glad I got my spending problem under control.

Has anyone else ever experienced this ?

I am traveling for work and don't have the card with me, when I return home I will call and /or chat to see if I get a different response.
News to me too! With a new card, often times I would call the card CS to confirm sign on bonus. I'd also ask if I may lower credit limit (if not now, in the future). I thought the CL they give me is always too high and too risky for me. Every answer has been "Yes of course".

Maybe this card just has very special rules. OR maybe the card company is hoping a higher CL could encourage charging.

Same here, I was told that the credit award was the minimum which I could be issued for the card.
