Interesting Upgrade Question
I got an interesting question regarding upgrade, wanna see anyone of you can solve it for me.
My mother and I will be traveling next month from YVR to YUL on a CP code share flight operated by AC. I am a gold member and my mother is just Club. For some reasons, we are holding two different fare rule ticket, mine is a N fare ticket, but my mother has a H fare ticket. I know for no reason I can get an upgrade with the dirt cheap N fare ticket, however, just want to know if I can get an upgrade for my mother based on my gold status.
I have checked the membership guide, but it only mentions that being a gold member, you can upgrade a companion as long as you two are on the same flight. So does it mean it would be fine in my case?

Rememer this flight is on AC metal so you can only upgrade on the day of travel. Based on the rules, you should be able to upgrade your companion.
Last year when I was travelling with my dad and brother, I got upgrades for myself and one of them at 100 hrs and then the other at the airport and he was placed on the standby list as a EP even though they are both only CLUB. I technically upgraded 2 companion with me.
After all, it all depends on the agent at the gate.

Hi,
Maybe I can offer some suggestions. If both tickets are booked on the CP codeshare, call CP and try to get them to upgrade your travelling companion. Mention to them that you are indeed travelling together, and provide them with the locator# of your reservation. If they can't, or refuse to do the upgrade, then definately try at the gate. As long as you have the correct stickers, you shouldn't have a problem. As long as the agent knows that you're on the same flight, then they really don't care who they're upgrading -- you or your travelling companion.
As of the 2nd of April, CP members are able to book their upgrade on AC operated flights. Just remember; if the booking is on the CP flight number, then call CP to do the upgrade.
Let me know what happens.
