DC-10
Just returning from YVR to YYZ today. I thought they were going to take row 5 out of the DC-10, at least that's what it said on the schedule. Anyway, the video system was working, only one channel-1 movie and they showed "Shakespear in Love" while Econ. gets to watch Patch Adams.
I just want to know, do CP always tries to fill up J class on routes such as YVR-YYZ, cause everytime, I check the interactive software for the seat maps of the flight I'll be on, it is quite empty and then it'll be full by take off.
Also, I think airline like UA is very bad. Take their upgrades for example, they upgrade according to your status which is pathetic. If the plane has 5 empty seats, then it will be gone in no time. Also heard that they let J class pax chose meal in the order according to their status. It is just Pathetic.
CP is also the best. Their food on today's flight was wonderful.

ajay:
It sounds like you were on one of the older DC-10s that CP will be selling off soon. Because they are not keeping them, they are not putting any money into "upgrading" those few planes, and they will not get the "Proud Wings" treatment either. (That may be why you only got 1 channel on the video, as well.)
I think you are correct about filling the J (Club Empress) class. In all my years of YVR-YYZ flights, I've never seen an empty business class seat, and yet, I've never had a problem upgrading. In fact, on a few occaisions, I have seen people invited up from economy. It makes good sense in my view, as the cost of moving someone from economy into an otherwise empty business seat is pretty much zero, but the benefit to the passenger and the goodwill it creates is quite remarkable.

I have been on a YYZ-YVR flight on a CP 767 where only 8 Club Empress seats were in use (my family were 3 of that 8). Economy was 99% full by the looks of it.
Mind you, this flight was on January 1st at 9:45am! Not the most popular for business travellers I would imagine.
