Flying on BA on the first week of January from LHR-YEG through YVR. BA85 lands at 19:25 and the WS to YEG departs at 21:15 and it's all under the same booking. Unless BA decides to BA around (delay or screw with baggages), should I just do the same "follow the signs to arrivals, clear customs, collect baggages, walk to the domestic pier and drop them off again" procedure? Or do I have to not worry about retrieving baggages upon arrival at YVR. Is 1:50 sufficient enough? I'd hope they'd offer an overnight accommodation at YVR incase I miss my next flight:p
Someone asked about a similar connection (BA=>AC on separate tickets with a shorter connection), Was advised not to as the BA flight apparently doesn't have good on-time record. |

Seems there's no 2023 edition of this thread. Anyway, I'm considering a 1h54m connection YYZ-YVR-SEA on separate tickets on Christmas Eve. No checked bags (carry-on only) with Global Entry. Would I be crazy to do this?
YYZ-YVR on AC121 arriving 19:01 YVR-SEA on AC8810 departing 20:55 I could adjust my inbound from AC121 to AC119 arriving 18:29 but then I run greater risk of misconnecting I-D (1h35m) in YYZ. |

Should be o.k. even if your flight is 1 hr late. The wild card is if domestic-to-transborder preclearance is open. If you have a GE card, there may be priority security clearance at either point.
Would I be better served taking the shorter connection at YYZ even if it's on paper riskier? I have no idea how difficult a 1:15 I-D connection is at YYZ (AC International to AC Domestic). Some threads elsewhere on FT pre-pandemic indicate it should be doable within 30min. I assume traveling on Christmas Eve should be pretty slow as well, assuming things are similar to US travel patterns. Edit: or does it not matter if USA preclearance is indeed not open and I end up having to go through uhh, is it the D gates? |
MIL flying back from China via China-ICN-YVR-YWG. OZ->AC->AC. Reading the guide should be ok with no need to recollect luggage? Normally that's the case but does it matter the origin is China? We haven't done this routing in awhile. Usually just AC-AC from other places so no issues. Thanks!

The website currently says preclearance at YVR is now open to 23:30, but there's no mention of whether Christmas Eve operates under different hours (how can I check?). I do carry my GE card when traveling (ever since CATSA gave me grief over it in YYZ a few years back).

If it isn't and you have to clear US entry at SEA, it'll be better as it's a faster connection D=>I (since no pre-clearance and maybe no add'l security). Just a long walk assuming it's on a DH-8 or some such. |

is it the same procedure for non air canada? searched for westjet but nothing turned up. This would be Westjet to CI, so B to D I'm guessing

No need to re-clear security. It's a bit of a hike, with only a few relatively short moving walkways, but with 5 hours, you shouldn't have any issues. |
We're flying YVR-DFW Jan 2 at 7:00AM. What time do the US authorities open up pre-clearance? I recall a few years ago standing in a queue and waiting.
Can anyone confirm it opens at 4:30AM? |

Is this the right thread to ask if there is a bus that connects Seattle with YVR airport? Or the other way round?
I can find buses from Vancouver to SEA airport, but what about YVR to Seattle? I found mentioning of Quick Shuttle, but they don't actually offer that. |

Don't remember if Quick Shuttle has stopped at YVR in recent years (might have done so 15-20 years ago). Currently, looks like you have to take the RAV line to Bridgeport and get the QS from the casino hotel. Other (and quicker if schedule fits) alternative is get the hotel shuttle to the Sandman Signature (the former Delta right by the highway and not the smaller one close by) and take the 4x daily Cantrail (Amtrak codeshare) bus. This one is non-stop to King Street station other than for the border stop. There's Flix/Greyhound/Bolt or whatever but looks like you have to go all the way into town (main rail station/bus terminal). |
PHX→YVR→KIX checked baggage question
Just got tickets PHX→YVR→KIX all on AC with an overnight 16hr layover in YVR. We're going to a hotel to sleep. My question is, do we need to get our checked bags and take them with us or will the bags be forwarded to the next flight?
Thanks for the thread and info. |
