Flying SFO-YYZ-YQB 2 Hour Connection?

Hi,

Is a 2 hour connection long enough for transit(Will have checked luggage) or should I take the later YYZ-YQB flight(3.5 Hours)? Air Canada flight scheduled for September 10. Thanks for your replies.

I"m worried I'm under the MCT now, although it was fine when I originally booked it. Traveling EWR -> YYZ (united) then a 1 hr 28 min connection then YYZ to YVR (air Canada) in business class - all booked on the same air Canada ticket. I'm only bringing carry on bags. it's booked through work so it shouldn't be terrible to change to a longer connection time. thoughts? I also have GE if that helps.

That should be enough. That assumes, of course, that your first flight is relatively on time. But 2 hours is usually sufficient for US to Canada connections.

Thats a bit of a tight connection when it comes to two major airports not exactly known for their on-time flights. But if AC booked the flights, they will take care of you if you miss the connection. There are plenty of YYZ-YVR flights every day.

Do you know if I have to clear immigration at YYZ?

It's a bit of a silly reason but I'd rather not miss the connection because this is one of the few flights that has layflats

Yes, but that shouldnt take more than a couple of minutes. If youre arriving business class youll be first off. Of course there are some transborder gates that are a fair distance from immigration, but its still very doable if your inbound flight is relatively on-time. But if youre going to stress about it, then peace of mind may make it worth a change.

Thank you! I tried to change it but it was $$$. So I'm just going to risk it and adjust if I have to. I'll try to be off the plane quickly and move quickly to the next gate. It looks like it's F gates -> D gates which hopefully won't be too much walking time.

If your gate is F86 or above you'll have a bit of a walk, but it's still very doable. Look for the domestic connections signage as per this page. I expect you'll have a few minutes after clearing customs to pop into the lounge or cafe (the better option IMO) and grab a snack.

I made it with 40 min to spare - did the arriveCan app and hustled through the airport, but I likely didn't need to.

I did have to do customs / immigrations and also security which was annoying. I think I likely have to do that on the way back as well, but apparently there's a global entry line on the way back to the US for security?

I found the priority security lines to be unusually confusing.

I haven't done a US->domestic connection since the advent of OSS but I have arrived from Europe with it. I'm surprised you didn't get OSS (One Stop Security) coming from the US. Did your boarding pass say "ITD OSS" on it? Is it normal not to do OSS coming from the US?

Glad to hear it worked out. Priority security is a hto joke at Pearson, it's just done willy nilly whatever the agents are feeling at the time.

Is UA a part of the ITI initiative at YYZ? I mean do pax arriving on UA to YYZ and connecting to an international AC flight need to clear Canadian immigration/customs?

Quick advice please, for a YYZ / Air Canada novice.

BKK->ZRH->YYZ->USA, all in Business Class next week. ZRH->YYZ->USA on Air Canada connecting to Air Canada Express (Jazz Aviation).
Connection time at YYZ is 2 hours, 35 minutes. Arrival at 4:10 PM, Departure at 6:45 PM.

Unfortunately, I will have a checked bag. I do have Global Entry.

Trying to wrap my head around the process.
Assume I need to collect my checked bag to go thru the pre-clearance process?
Any overwhelming concerns about the connection time?

From what I can glean from searching, 2 and half hours should be OK with Air Canada transfer with pre-clearance ...is that right?
Anything I need to know?

Thanks much!

No, you do not need to pick up your bag, unless they tell you something differently at checkin, however by-inlarge you'll see your bags at the final destiniation

I picked JFK just as a random destination city, however applies to every US destination.

Thanks for that. I am checking in at BKK, so not sure they would have any insight into procedure at YYZ...assuming they check the bag all the way thru to CVG.

I found some posts on other forums about a camera system where you identify your checked bag via a photo during the immigration process. Is that how they handle it on this type of itinerary?

Overall, is 2.5 hours a typically comfortable amount of time for the connection?

I am flying out tomorrow so want to be prepared if I need to hustle.
Especially with the post above quoting
Many took the opportunity to fire shots at the airport, which has been in the hot seat since a disastrous spring and summer 2022 travel season that saw the airport clogged with lines and plagued with delays and cancellations.
Haha. THANKS!
