YYZ Connection Question

I have a flight coming up from Dubai to YYZ on Emirates and then a separate booking with Air Canada on the same date for travel to the US. I am fully vaccinated if it matters. Will i need the PCR test that Canada requires for entry or just the antigen test for entry into the US? I'm guessing i'll need to collect my bags and recheck them with Air Canada.

You will need to complete the ArriveCan formalities and enter Canada relevant at the time. How much time is there between these flights?

I would assume so, since it is your first destination. You’ll also need to complete ArriveCan.

I was able to get a hold of someone at Pearson immigration to verify and they said we would need the pcr test as it stands right now. Thanks. 🙏

Depending when you travel — it looks as if Canada is about to change the rules so an antigen test will suffice here as well. Some rumors say March 1 for that change.

Yes, 1 March is the date when changes are expected to be implemented.

Thanks. Yeah, the guy I talked to hinted that some changes were coming but didn't really elaborate. I fly on March 4th so i'm hoping that's the case.

Flying from LGA (New York) - YYZ (via Toronto) - YVR (Vancouver) within one day.
I am Canadian and luggage to be picked up in Vancouver (final destination).
Do I need to go through custom and security in Toronto?
Thanks!

You'll need to clear CBP/immigration but you won't need to redo security as long as you stay airside.
HSBC likes this.

Any recent experiences with connections arriving to YYZ? We are coming in about a week from US through YYZ to YQB.

US > YYZ > third country on single Air Canada itinerary (US passport) -- which area(s) of YYZ will I pass through or have access to during the connection, specifically for considering which lounges I can access? The connections guide on YYZ is unclear about the sequence of area of the airport we pass through. Assuming a passport check before the outbound departure, but no additional security screen, correct?

Depends on if you are arriving on AC/Star Alliance in T1 or OneWorld/Skyteam in T3. T1 has a separate sterile area where you do not have to formally enter Canada. T3 does not.

Good point! All on AC -- edited original.
