Subway. McDonalds. Many major chains can provide dirt cheap food if you use the offers and “sub of the day” stuff, and coupon clip.

What are you looking for? Affordable 3 course dinners with candles for two or dirt cheap holes in the wall for one? Any dietary restrictions or preferences?

I’ve lived on dried soup, a few croissants and a coupe of chocolate / cereal bars for two days while on a train that only had boiling water. That was pretty cheap. Wouldn’t recommend it for long periods of time.

There are soup kitchens in Ottawa and Montreal, not sure about Quebec City.

In Quebec, you can try Cochon Dingue

or Casse-Crepe Breton

Cochon Dingue and Casse-crępe Breton are good suggestions. However, OP should note that neither of these establishments serves "eats".
