YVR Lines- Preclearnace

Hi,

I Have a 7:45 a.m flight to US out of YVR. Wanted to know when is the best time to come which has the least amount of lines.

Any suggestions? (U.S passport)

In my experience, the US pre-clearance doesn't take that long. you scan your passport in one of the kiosks and give the print out to the officer. Usually they ask you a couple of questions, and they send you on your way, that is if you don't get the dreaded SSSS, in which case expect to spend 5-10 minutes extra or more. I would be more concerned with the line through security (CATSA), it can take up to an hour when it gets really busy. So I suggest you leave early.

If needing to check bags: An hour-forty-five before.

If carry-on only: An hour-30 before.

Is there anytime of the day that the lines are really shorter (less busy times)?

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but there are two major departing flight banks at YVR Preclearance: the morning flights out (think before 8AM), and another in the afternoon (roughly 12:30-2:30). Anything outside of these times should be a little shorter. Of course, it might end up limiting your selection of departures.

Late afternoon up until evenings. Many fewer eastbound flights at that time.
