<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta announced today that Edward Gomez, the former head of the California Highway Patrol's Los Angeles division, will be the federal security chief at San Francisco International Airport.
Gomez edged out San Francisco Police Chief Fred Lau, who recently acknowledged he had applied for the $150,000-a-year post with the new Transportation Security Administration. But sources say Lau is still in the running for the federal security director job at Mineta/San Jose International or Oakland International.</font>
