SoCal beaches, August
Hi,
I've been to Southern California a couple of times but both visits have been in the early part of the summer (June) and both have had pretty dubious weather - you know, the kind of thing we pretend passes for summer here in the UK
So, would we have proper beach weather in mid-August, or is it still a bit of a crapshoot?
Many thanks

It is caused by desert air, 100 miles to the east, heating up and rising, and pulling in humid air from the warm Pacific Ocean over the cold California Current near the coast. The air condenses overnight as it comes inland causing a thick marine layer that may even drizzle or mist.
As the Alaskan Current warms up in July, the marine layer starts to dissipate earlier in the day and eventually totally disappears come August.
