First Club Check In - Gold / Silver Card Holders

As we approach peak holiday times (the loads on most flights are now almost full until September) First (Premier/Gold/Emerald) and Club (Silver/Sapphire/Ruby) check-in desks are being swamped by passengers with no entitlement to use them (ie non-card holders / expired card holders) This slows down the procedures for our genuine First Club Premier Gold and Silver cardholders.

When approaching First or Club check in, if you are not travelling in the First or Club cabin, would you please have your Premier, Gold or Silver (or One World equivalent) card ready to show premier check in entitlement. Possession of the number in a diary or PDA device is not sufficient evidence. When we swipe the card into the computer, it will show if it is "Expired" so, if you are in possession of an "Expired" card, please contact the Executive Club NOW to get a replacement as the "Expired" card may get you refused access to First / Club check in or the Lounges in the future.

Hopefully, these measures will improve the service being received by those genuinely entitled to it!

I know 2 gold card holders whose cards expired in March and April and have still not received their replacements. Are others having problems getting their new cards?

This makes me so Such chancers should be escorted to the back of the longest economy queue which can be found and not allowed to switch from it

Out of interest, bealine, why don't the staff unceremoniously turf away the people you mention in the other thread today who are not allowed there when they get to the desk (i.e. costing those sods time and effort, but not so much to the people entitled to use it behind them). Or do they?

Perhaps PUCCI could be asked to patrol the check-in with her hairbrush at the ready.

I'm not surprised - however even having a valid card won't make much difference.

I clearly remember last summer when I was flying to Paris a lot that they wouldn't let you check-in at anything other than your cabin on the day, regardless of card, etc.

I think I started a thread about this at the time however then we had the catering fiasco and I think it was all forgotten.....

On the card front - how long does it generally take to receive your new card when you move up a tier? Is taking a print out of the front page of the exec' club page where your status and expiry date are shown ok?

My new silver card (renewal) took about four weeks to come through.

When I was promoted to Silver it took about 5 weeks. When I renewed it was just a couple.

I believe your best bet is to ask for a replacement card as soon as you are promoted. You can always put it to one side somewhere like a wicker basket in the kitchen () if your original gets lost.

Er, sorry, no.
<couple of gins rant>

Still not got my silver card (new qualification) and I'm in the middle of a bloddy business trip. I don't have the sodden bit of shiny plastic on me. Please tell your lazy post departmet to pull their fingers out. Furthermore, tell your lazy IT department to be able to allow front line staff to check if you are entitled or not. Bloddy ba.com can tell me I'm a sliver why can't your stinking systems?

My wife got her silver card quite fast within 2 or 3 weeks.

I patrol the aisles of 747s and 777s - I feel that is quite enough - but thank you for that (XX)

Bealine - I have obviously laboured under a delusion. I though that it was the status as shown in the computer that mattered not the colour of the plastic. Often HI has arrived at the Lounge (he usually has OCLI - no corect that [i[I[/i] have checked him in on line and he has forgotten or has not produced his card at that precise moment. It came up in the booking and that was sufficient to let him into the lounge - or will that have been the Class that was sufficient? It does say Gold/Silver on the BP. Has anything changed?

The only slight problem I would see is there is a 'glitch' over at the Friendly Skies in that if you make a reservation before your status has expired (but it then subsequently does), your status shows up as the old higher one. If someone re-enters the number, it will change.

However, BA's system seems cleaver enough, in that my new status showed on the BP despite it happening during a trip. No intervention was required. Therefore I would conclude that BA's systems do indeed check 'realtime'.
