(NB. "they" are very sensitive to any critisism of the website. "They" think that it is the Bee's Knees - so moan good and loud to "them". I'll bet anything that they've paid through the nose for this monstrosity and find that they've been sold a pup. Tell me a really good site - so that I can mention this to "them"
I like the Emirates site - just compare their seatmap animations and cabin 360 degree visuals - it makes the ba site look like it was created by a chimp using FrontPage.

United has a very good site. However these outages could be the reservation system or some other system. There are so many subsystems and network entities involved that the finger-pointing within BA and their vendors could go on forever.

No direct experience of an Essex girl's knickers I can assure you, although I seem to have touched a nerve, Pucci, have I hit a little close to home with this? Dare I ask if you're from Essex?

Tesco? ^

A multitude of different products continually being re-priced (...oh well so are BA's ) so a fair bit on on-going updating...handles on-line ordering and it is blindingly fast by comparison.

How's that for starters?

Editraveller,
I find the BA site is more useful in terms of doing things- check-in online, change my seat assignment, although I agree that the EK site has some good clips on the new interiors.

You may dare? The answer is No, I don't.

Dare I ask if your wife/partner/Mother have your life assurance well secured in the event of you and my hairbrush coming into contact? Dare I ask whether you want flowers or a wreath from the Essex Girls that I fly with?

Where does Dave_C come from?

This is a general question and everyone may join in.

Mr Stimpy - (I'd love to know that origin of your handle?) - thank you. I suspected that one of the US airlines would be among them - and God knows United are a very big airline.

Tesco - yes, see what you mean, but I should have specified "airline" so that I can deliver an identical comparison (airline to airline). Are you however, trying in a subtle gentlemanly (we could do with a few more nowadays) way where you obtain your Viagara? Does it still require a prescription? (If there is a medical Doctor on board would you please make yourself known to one of the cabin staff?)

Well now PUCCI you'll have to take my word for it but I really don't know much about Viagara...other than the fact that a lot of folk who e-mail me seem to think I have a need for it

If we are ever on a flight together I'm sure you will be able to ascertain just how gentlemanly I can be...I always say PLEASE when I ask for (yet) another drink...

Off on a LHR - PHL - LHR jaunt with "She who must be obeyed" next week and I've bagged a couple of nice upper deck seats both ways. ^

Oh dear, I seem to have earnt the wrath of Pucci

I'm terribly sorry, I won't dare compare the reliability of the BA website with an Essex girl's knickers again - I promise. Is scouse ok to use instead?

As for where I come from, it should say under my name, I'm just a few stops up the train line from your esteemed self, in Wimbledon.

First of all, why assume that I am a Mr.? Is it that obvious? Stimpy is a U.S. cartoon and as to why it's my handle, let's just say that some of us aren't as clever as you when we first sign on to these bulletin boards. I never thought Flyertalk would become what it has. Yet I could have changed my handle to something more adult and sensible anytime...nah!

As for a bad website from one who claims to be the new worlds largest airline, try www.airfrance.com

BA.com seems to be a bit like half the nation this morning...only half awake

Trying to look up prices and availability LHR - SYD - LHR for my daughter to go to a wedding there later this year...it will give me the prices for each day to get there...but that's as far as it will go.

Anyone else noticed a problem if you try to check flight details...like when you have chosen the flight but click on the flight number for further info on flying time...aircraft type...etc? It tells me the page is unavailable...

This site really is rubbish these days...both in terms of access and navigation...I agree with the earlier comment about when you are in 'my booking'...why can you not go back to a full list once you have looked at one...very poor site design...whoever paid for this deserves sacking...OH...I forgot...I'm a customer...I PAID...I want my £5 back...NOW

fbg, you're right - but none of ba.com runs on Windows infrastructure.

The problem that prompted this thread to be opened was caused by a power supply failure to a switch cabinet. Power was restored within 30 minutes, but the ongoing problems went on for several hours.

Pucci - you're right... "Them upstairs" hate to be told that the website isn't very good and keep pointing to the increasing numbers of pax who make bookings on the web-site (which is true); but clearly the dis-incentive of pax being forced to pay a surcharge for booking off-line has passed ba.com management by.

According to Netcraft ba.com runs on Apache on Solaris.

I'm pretty shocked that they didn't have a UPS or some kind of redundancy for the switch cabinet; a simple failure like that, shouldn't be able to take down the site for several hours. I'd imagine that the money lost in bookings for those few hours would be a lot more than it would cost to upgrade their network infrastructure for greater fault tolerance.

ojs555, thanks a lot for the info! ^

The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties...

That was a fair question. You had always struck me as being a Mr. through your tone and the very sense of immediacy that you have with you. I may be wrong - but whilst I do not suffer fools gladly - you give the impression that you do not suffer them at all. I suspect that you prefer to keep yourself to yourself, and that a chatty neighbour in the seat next to you would drive you mad. Some would endure it, you'd move. If I am wrong, please do not be offended.

I am delighted to realise that you are not adult or sensible because no one else here is either. This Board does not do "boring" for long! I had time to consider my handle as I lurked here for a long time before emerging from my shell!

Jimmy the Jock, as you seem to be far fat too knowledgeable about Viagara for my liking, I will accept that as you have both a wife and a daughter to keep you in line you must be the gentleman that you profess you tobe.

Dave_C. Wimbledon...is that really really Wimbledon, not Raynes Park, Merton, Wimbledon Chase? I'm even closer than you think...my station is Berrylands.
