Tomorrow (21/12) BA207 to BA1207 - LHR-MIA

Does anyone know why the BA207 (A380) was cancelled but the BA1207 (new flight number, 77W) was replaced, with exactly the same flight timings?

What is the 77W aircraft like? How does it compare in F between the A380?

Thank you!

Not sure why but the reason may be posted later on in this thread and I suspect your post will be merged there. The A380's sometimes seem to have some issues here and there with gremlins popping up but it could be a number of reasons why really.

FAQ : Reason for flight delay or cancellation - 2023 edition

As for F there are various threads on this which may help.

On the 77W basically there are 3 I think with 2010 First seats (14) and the rest have new F (privacy doors) and have 8 seats. More info here on the best seats and see the Wiki for the layouts (The 77W's are at the bottom). The A380 has more space than the 777 seats.

I couldn’t find any details of the 77W where there’s 14 seats in F! This aircraft also seems to have standard club seats, not club suites. Is there any detail on the 14 seat First seat on a 77W vs A380? Will this plane even have WiFi?

Thank you

The BA1207 will be operated by G-STBC, which is indeed in 14F 56J 44W 183M configuration. It will have wi-fi.

A lack of pilots for the A380 has caused the cancellation of BA207. The code for that is FCRY. Due to the way various internal systems work a new flight number is needed to reinstate the flight, so BA1207 will operate in lieu of the above. You will be on one of the two remaining 77G fleet and the product is in effect the same as the A380, just minus one deck. The seating is the same albeit first is a little bit different.

… And the aircraft will still get you to your intended destination!

If the code is FCRY then that suggests it’s eligible for UK261 compensation, but if the replacement flight is at the same time, that suggests it isn’t. Which is right?

I'd argue that it is eligible for compensation, although whether that is morally acceptable to claim is for further discussion.

Aren't there some edge cases where a flight can be delayed (say for a domestic) less than 3h so ineligible for compensation, but by rerouting on another service (and improving the arrival time) compensation is available? I seem to remember deciding not to claim in such a case.

It may technically qualify for UK261 but no compensation is due to passengers transferred to the BA1207 provided that flight arrives within 2 hours of the scheduled arrival time.

We're flying this route on Friday, and following on Flightradar it has been a real mess this week. Today's BA209 got to the runway 2 hours late, turned off and is now just ticking through the delay (3.5 hours so far). On Monday it left 6 hours late. On Saturday 4 hours...

I dread seeing the A380 on my routes now. I think the OP got very lucky with this equipment change.

I was on one of the A380s to Miami yesterday and we were an hour late to take off after apparently a number of issues which required resolving by mechanics! Sounds like we got rather lucky.

So are there any 3 class 777-300s? One of my flights next year is showing as a 77W with Club from rows 1 to 24. No First cabin.

No, it's a 77W with FLUB.
